I would like to know if there’s an ordinance against loud, loud bass music playing from cars driving around town.

Title IX, Chapter 93 (93.01, 93.02 and 93.03), of the village’s ordinance code addresses noise within the village boundaries. While there is no specific decibel level indicated, Section B of 93.03 states that a vehicle in violation of the noise emission standards “which causes discomfort or annoyance to reasonable persons of normal sensitiveness or which endangers the comfort, repose, health or peace of residents” will be considered a violation the noise emission standards set in place. Violators can be fined up to $750. Anyone wanting to find out about village ordinances can check www.villageoflombard.org, click on “How do I?” and then follow the code of ordinances link for specific code listings.—JAC

The new artificial-turf field at Willowbrook has already paid some dividends. The field doesn't need to be mowed, watered or seeded and it has permanent markings, so a crew isn’t needed to paint the yard markers and out-of-bounds markers every week. The field is safe and it drains very well, so it isn’t torn up after one event in the rain. Willowbrook’s field, on the other hand, is able to hold a soccer game one night, and a football game the next day, for example. Recently, the Villa Park Warriors youth football program played six games on the field in one day. That wouldn’t be possible at Glenbard East’s field, where the football team just played three straight home games in the rain and mud. The field conditions were brutal. The field was totally torn up by the football games and a few soccer games played in wet conditions. The Glenbard East-Willowbrook playoff soccer game was supposed to be played at Glenbard East, but it was moved to Willowbrook because the Rams’ field was unplayable.

Lombard calling. I’m sure you’re all aware of one of the biggest problems our world is facing—global warming. The earth must be getting warmer, because Al Gore said so. Here’s an idea—maybe we should have an outdoor rally here in Lombard one night to raise awareness about the problem of global warming. That would be great. And if you come, it might be a good idea to wear a hat, gloves, a scarf, long underwear and a heavy coat. You might want to bring some hot chocolate, too.

To the person who got that “nice note” from Sen Durbin, I get them all the time. He takes the subject of my question and replies with a form letter, never answering the questions. By the way—Durbin’s disdain for his constituents was demonstrated by failing to appear at any town hall meetings in Illinois to discuss the health care plan and when he insulted the people by stating we were just “angry mobs.” Or maybe you enjoy Sens. Durbin’s and Burris’ unyielding support for ACORN?

Hey, folks, the City of Chicago, which is run by Democrats, decided to spend $70 million to try getting the Olympics in Chicago. Didn’t work. Hmm, $70 million well spent.

Thanks to the street sweepers for coming down my block early in the morning recently. Our street has those horrible trees with the big brown seed pods and the fern-like leaf structure, and those leaves are the most awful thing to try and rake up because they are so small. They are everywhere and the street, driveways and sidewalks look like they’ve been splattered with yellow paint. They clog the gutters terribly, and I am sweeping up in the house more than once a day because they are constantly being tracked in. Whoever thought to plant those over 20 years ago should have his or her head examined. They are a nuisance and not even an attractive tree. But, thanks, Lombard, for being on the ball. Now, what time can I expect you tomorrow? They’re already back.

Lombard calling. I am an almost 60-year-old woman who has resided in Lombard for the past 45 years. I have purchased years-worth of village stickers. I purchased a new vehicle recently, which was parked in the Jewel parking lot while I shopped. I came out to find a ticket on my car for no Lombard village sticker. It was a ticket on a car I just purchased, and I know we have 45 days in which to buy a sticker. If the police officer had bothered to talk to me I could have shown him the document proving this and he would have seen that I was not in violation of the law.

Red light alert, Villa Park. Do not, under any circumstances, make a right turn out of Riverside Drive onto Route 83. It is a total trap for anybody who does not totally and absolutely concentrate on watching that red light. I repeat, do not, under any circumstances, turn right at that red light. Sit there and wait for a green light. Otherwise, you’re throwing $100 at the Villa Park Police Department. It is a trap. Do not do it.

This is Lombard calling. The White House communication director stated so eloquently that the White House is at war with the Fox News Network, and I happened to notice that every time the president talks, he mentions Fox News. This White House and this president spend more time worrying about Fox and being at war with Fox News Network than the real wars, where we have people getting killed. He will not even talk to the general who’s in charge of Afghanistan. Maybe they should stop worrying about Fox and concentrate on the real wars. Oh, by the way, the president should get a Nobel Peace Prize for economics, too. He’s done nothing there, either.

This message is to thank Lombard for the recycling extravaganza they held at the village hall. It was well-run, organized and everybody was so friendly. Thank you again.

Lombard calling. It’s late October and I was just thinking; one of the biggest problems we’re facing is global warming. Global warming is a serious threat. Maybe we should have a rally—an outdoor rally at night to combat global warming.

I hope somebody can find my caged skeleton, a Halloween decoration that was stolen from Garfield Street in Lombard. It was hanging on a shepherd pole right in front of my house and somebody has stolen it.

Villa Park calling regarding a statement I read in the paper from Trustee Hegland regarding bringing back the stickers to Villa Park. He forgets that we are paying a utility tax that is quite high and that replaced the stickers some year ago. Obviously he thinks we have forgotten about it. I, as a senior citizen, will remember him when he comes to my door looking for a vote next time.

I just wanted to call and say to the person who had the idea for a motorcycle Cruise Nights, it’s a great idea. I think we should do it.

Believe it or not, there are independents and liberals in DuPage County, and don’t run for your life to McHenry County because guess what? They are raising their children to believe in God and most of all to love their fellow man. They are not gangbangers or drug dealers, and they may live next door to you. They also know that our present president does care about them.

This is Lombard calling. I find it funny—I read the Lombard Pride and noticed that the Halloween hours are from 3-7 p.m., even though Halloween is on a Saturday. In the same article, the police state that the children should be trick-or-treating during daylight hours. How about we push those hours up so they actually have some daylight. Even though Daylight Savings Time got pushed back, it’s still dark at 6 o’clock, not to mention Halloween is on a Saturday. Adults will be leaving and kids will be trick-or-treating with no one home.

I read about all the stores being vacant in downtown Lombard; I watched a village meeting and what was their proposal? To take down the For Sale and For Rent signs that have been up for two years. That’s really fixing the problem that you promised to get our downtown going, village. That’s really helping us out.
