Look at your garbage bill from Waste Management. They’re raising the prices again and nobody’s listening and nobody’s doing anything about it. This is really ridiculous. They raise the price of picking up the garbage, they raise the price of gasoline; gasoline hasn’t soared out of control but they keep raising that up and raising the bookkeeping. It used to be before it rose in one place. Call your senator; call your congressman and tell them that this has to stop. This is ridiculous. They’re getting away with it and nobody’s doing a thing about it.

Dog walkers: Please, please pick up your dog’s mess when you walk your dog. I went out to take my garbage out one day and there was dog poop everywhere. Near Edgewood and Roosevelt. Please pick it up.

This is Yorkville, formerly Lombard. Lombard, your Grace Street and Main Street really need to be redone. And also, on Grace Street north of North Avenue, there are two spots right when you go just north of North Avenue and one by the church that never got fixed when you resurfaced the street.

This is Lombard calling. Being that I am a mindful person of the waste that our family generates—a family of four, I might add—I was very concerned about the 64-gallon trash can we have. We usually fill the recyclable one but we never fill the trash can, so I called Waste Management to see what we could do about that; maybe get a smaller one. According to them, the Village of Lombard has a contract, very strictly, that all of us have to have a 64-gallon one unless we are seniors or unless we live in a townhome. So here I am, a family of four, I am not wasting, I am conserving; but no, I have to have this huge trash can that gets smelly in the summer even if we wash it. There you go, Lombard; chew that one up. We’d love to have a smaller trash can. Not all of us are that wasteful.

This is Lombard calling. I woke up recently and found out that my car was broken into—the driver’s-side window was smashed and my pink Coach diaper bag was stolen out of my van. If anybody sees a pink Coach diaper bag, please turn it in to the police.

Hey, Dave Hulseberg, you might not have noticed there’s a recession going on. I agree that it would be nice to have it all, and when we’re all rich, I agree, build the bridge. I’d like to have a chauffeur to drive me to work so things would be safer that way, too. I’ve lived without that for many years and can live without it for many more. Hulseberg might not have noticed there’s a recession going on. You think the money’s coming from someplace else. There are 60 other towns thinking the same thing, so it pretty much washes out. We all end up spending a lot more money in taxes. There’s a recession going on. Oh, and let’s build a skate park, too. Here’s an idea; drive your kids to Glen Ellyn and let’s save the money.

Thank you, Mr. Obama for letting the price of gas go up, over $3, and that was what it was in 2008, and you were going to change everything. So, that’s one thing you haven’t handled yet. I did inflate my tires, which you suggested, but it doesn’t help on the price of gas. Thank you, Mr. Obama.

This is to the person complaining about their lawn. People are losing the jobs, people are losing their houses, our government and our village are wasting our money, and all you are concerned about is your lawn? Why don’t you go buy a TV? Why don’t you go read a newspaper? And, get a life; it’s only grass.

Hi, this is Lombard calling. I would like to know if Lombard is ever going to do anything with North Main Street between St. Charles and North Avenue. It’s getting worse and worse and it seems like the village never hesitates to go and do anything in the middle of town or around Yorktown. They’re always doing something around there but they always forget about us people at the north end of town. I’d like to know if they’re going to do anything.

According to a Village of Lombard press release, Main Street is scheduled for resurfacing work in mid- to late summer, including curb and sidewalk repairs, road base repairs and asphalt pavement removal and replacement, between St. Charles Road and Goebel Drive.—JAC

SPEAK OUT readers, this is to the people who are unhappy with the way that Waste Management has knocked over the garbage cans. I found out from experience when it was happening to me, I moved the garbage cans about a foot and a half away from the curb and that seemed to stop it; when they pick it up with the gripper and drop it down, they don’t knock it over anymore, so you can give that a try.

This is Lombard calling. I am very glad to know that they are building a skate park in Lombard. It’ll be an advantage to the skaters and skateboarders and everybody else. My only question is, where will it be put and how much money will be going into it? Again, it’s a great idea but if anybody could tell me where it’s supposed to be built, I’d appreciate it.

In a Feb. 24 article written by Bonnie MacKay, it was stated that plans are in the works for a skate park at Madison Meadow, and that the park district budgeted some money—about $50,00—for the project. Paul Friedrichs, executive director for the park district, said it would be a “two-year test program.”—JAC

Lombard calling. Just because you voted someone into office doesn’t mean they are as smart as you are. They can’t read your mind all the time. Call your trustees and let them know how they are doing one way or the other so they can represent you properly.

Hi, I just want to respond to the Lombard trustees that I was proud of you, Mr. Ware and all the rest of the trustees who voted against the Taste. You can’t lay off people and then go and have a big party for others. It’s time the village shows responsibility. Thanks for taking that stand.

To the people of Lombard, to the people who are concerned about what the current village board members are doing; are these really the people we want making decisions about the future of Lombard? Even though the Taste was reinstated, if those who voted it down are allowed to continue on this path, every event that Lombardians look forward to will cease to exist. At the very least the board could have fought harder and explored all options before initially suspending an institution that has been around for 27 years. What’s next; Lilac Time and the Lilac Parade? I would like to find out more about the programs that got grants from Lombard. I’m not sure about the current board’s agenda, but it doesn’t seem to be in the best interests of Lombardians. I’ll be watching the village board meetings with a little more concern. I hope we all will. With that being said, let’s oust the cancer that has taken over our board.

This is Lombard calling. To those of you complaining about the mail carrier making a pass on your lawn, the postal service is having financial tough times. If a route takes longer to deliver, the next stop is to put the mailboxes on the curb to speed up delivery service. Now you have an excuse to complain, that you have to get dressed to get your mail. And a tip for the mail carriers is to walk a little to the left or right so you don’t wear a path.
