Oh my gosh, it’s January, it’s winter in Chicago; we’ve got 4 to 6 inches of snow. Shut down all the schools. Send the kids home early. Oh my gosh, the world’s going to end. It’s Chicago in January; deal with it. Stop the hype—oh my gosh, a winter storm is 4-6 inches now. It used to be 8-15 inches. Now it’s down to this. Please, get a life.

Hi, this is Lombard calling. Well, record snowfall, record cold; you know, I’ve got to believe that if you still believe in global warming, you probably still think the Earth is flat. Or, you invested in the same company that Al Gore’s part owner of that he has already made hundreds of millions of dollars off of and stands to make billions if Cap and Trade is passed. Anyway, folks, gosh, I wish there was global warming, because this snow stinks.

I read in another paper about the candidates in Elmhurst; seven candidates for state rep and county board chair. Out of those seven candidates, five of those list their occupation as political offices. Do we just keep shuffling the politicians, the ones who are in Springfield want to be on the county board, and the ones on the county board want to go to Springfield? Personally, I’m not voting for any incumbent. That’s the only way we’ll ever get anything to change.

Shame on Lombard. I completely agree with the SPEAK OUT caller who shovels his or her snow onto the street—after all that work of clearing the driveway only to have that big fat snow plow push it back. I also agree that the village should stop this practice immediately and put an ordinance in place that states, “If snow has been shoveled and/or blown onto the street at the end of a perfectly clear driveway, the plow operator must pick up the plow immediately before that driveway and set the plow down immediately after that driveway.” This way, the residents will still have a perfectly clear driveway to walk down when they need to go get their small shovel to dig their car out of the pile of snow on the street. This will also benefit residents who clear their driveway properly, since they will have something to smile about as they drive around the stuck car instead of just that pesky snow that was shoveled onto the street.

This is Lombard calling. I’m just sitting at home, without a job, reading how this year, the federal government and people who work for it, at the start of this year, there were 1,600 people who made over $150,000 a year working for the government. Our president gave a bunch of people a raise and now there are over 18,000 people who make over $150,000 a year. Isn’t it wonderful? I don’t have a job but the people in D.C. are getting raises. Is this the hope and change you guys wanted when you voted for Barack Obama? I sure hope it isn’t because this isn’t the change I wanted.

I'm not sure how to interpret Joelyn Kott's SPEAK OUT response about senior rates not being part of Lombard's contract with Comcast. Does she mean that Comcast doesn't offer it or the village didn't ask for it? If other towns do indeed offer a senior discount, I would guess that Lombard chose not to ask for it as part of the contract.

Joelyn Kott, communications and marketing coordinator for the Village of Lombard, clarified: “As I recall during negotiations with Comcast, Lombard did ask for a senior discount. At the time, Comcast indicated that they did not offer a senior rate and that if the village wanted to offer any discount, the discount would have to be subsidized by the village. Subsequently, a senior discount was not negotiated.”—JAC

Villa Park. In these tough economic times, how about this for a fundraising, moneymaking idea—instead of red light cameras, turn that closed bridge into a toboggan hill and charge everybody $5 in order to take their sled or toboggan down the hill, and maybe that will solve Villa Park’s budget problem.

Lombard calling. Why wasn’t the senior citizen discount negotiated in the Comcast contract and why wasn’t an amnesty day negotiated in the Waste Management contract? Residents of other communities are allowed to throw out anything on a certain day and have it picked up without fees or stickers. The people of Lombard deserve a response to these questions.

This is Lombard calling. If the Catholic Church is so short on money that they closed Driscoll in Addison and mean to shut down St. A’s in Villa Park, how come they have the money to do that TV commercial for Catholics to come home? Where did they get the money to do that commercial? Catholics are not the only religion in the United States or Illinois. What about Lutherans and other religions? Catholics, wake up and smell the rosary.

Hi, this is for the individual who made the comment about Obama finally getting the economy back on track. Are you kidding me? He hasn’t helped the economy at all. If it wasn’t for people who own businesses to try and provide jobs, there’d be no economy. Get your head out of the sand.

This is Lombard calling. This question is for the Village of Lombard. I was just wondering if there was an ordinance about shoveling. My daughter is a half-mile too far in, in order to receive bus service and I have a disabled child at home whom I can’t leave. My daughter has to walk to school via Finley Road to go to Glenbard East. It’s quite unfortunate that I can be out there shoveling, even in the heaviest of snows, because I don’t have a snowblower, to make sure the sidewalk is clear for other children, yet my daughter can’t even walk because the snow is frozen from Finley all the way down to the corner where you turn to go to Glenbard East. It’s hard. The children have to walk in the streets and we want our children to be safe. Come on, Lombard, what’s the problem?

On Feb. 2, I am encouraging all Villa Park residents to get out and vote no to the referendum to fix roadways by increasing the property taxes of Villa Park residents significantly. With the high unemployment rate and families struggling to make ends meet, we do not need any more taxes. We already pay enough property tax. Let the Village of Villa Park get the money through Obama's Rebuilding America Program. Please help out your fellow neighbors and vote no to this referendum. Don't give away any more of your hard earned money.

Hey, Lombard, or I should l say Lombard Park District, great job on the various ice rinks around town. Early in the morning on my way to work I see your crews pumping water to resurface them; the ice is always as smooth as glass. The only thing missing would be a couple of hockey nets. Trust me, you put a few hockey nets out there, and pretty soon a fun hockey game breaks out. Please.
