I’m calling to comment about the football playoffs and championships. I agree 100 percent. I don’t take anything away from the other teams; congratulations, especially to Montini. However, I do wish they would do something about the Glenbard East football program. If we are going to continue to be in the DVC, we need to put together a program that can compete at that level. Nothing against the current coach—he’s a nice guy—but we need to shake up the program and put together a winning football team. Go Rams.

I’ve been listening to a lot of radio and watching some TV. I hear about all these phone companies now saying because there are new laws, you can’t text message while driving because of all the accidents, coming into effect Jan. 1. Now, the same people who caused the problem, the monopolies, the huge corporations, are telling you not to do it, but they’re the ones who created the problem to begin with. Ironic, isn’t it? Or stupidity, one of the two.

I read in the Dec. 9 Lombardian on Page 3 that the village prohibits the depositing of snow on the parkway adjacent to the street. Well, that’s kind of interesting, because the village snow removal people deposit snow on the parkway. So, is there an exemption for them? I thought this applied to everyone.

This is Lombard calling. The House of Representatives just passed the bill to let all federal spending go up 12 percent next year. Yes, that’s correct, folks, 12 percent. You and I are sitting at home, without a job, pinching pennies, a tight Christmas, and they are spending like crazy. You know folks, we need term limits and I’m starting to really think that anybody who has a Harvard or Yale degree should not be allowed to be in the House of Representatives, the Senate, or president, because apparently, they’re pretty smart but stink at running our country. They really stink at balancing a checkbook.

I’m calling from Lombard, responding to the individual who posted the information about local playoff runs for some of the local high schools. I find it amusing that we’re going to focus on playoff efforts in high school events, when we have issues with the actual education system and the way to fund the education system. Not only in the Glenbard school district, but in the state of Illinois in general. If this person is so inclined to worry about the football program, maybe he or she could start writing checks to help fund the football program so that money can be used for other things, like student education. My kids have the ability to go to any Glenbard school they wanted to, and we chose to send them to East because of the academic capabilities. If that person is so inclined to worry about football, maybe he or she should move to Texas.

This is Lombard calling. I think Lombard should be called the Santa Claus Village instead of the Lilac Village. Hopefully you got to drive past the Santa Claus retirement home on Main Street. Hopefully you got to see the synchronized lights/music at 251 N. Fairfield. Phenomenal show; absolutely excellent show. Fun, exciting, awesome. Keep it up, and good luck on your Make-A-Wish Foundation collection.

Hi, this is Lombard here. Boy, the Village of Lombard could be getting lots of speeding tickets for rolling through intersections and that sort of thing, at Crescent and Finley, where people don’t realize it’s a three-way stop, let alone stop. They roll through the stop and some of them don’t even bother to stop. It’s a very dangerous intersection right by the train tracks. Perhaps they should put up a sign saying it’s a three-way stop and maybe people will stop and maybe people won’t roll through the stop sign. I wonder how much a ticket would be for rolling through a stop sign versus turning right on red without stopping. We have those red-light cameras for lights, but what do we have for stop signs? Perhaps an officer should park himself there for awhile and see.

Hello, Villa Park. Villa Park trustees, does anybody know how to save some money? Think of the senior citizens who haven’t got their cost-of-living raise this year, and their bills are going up. Do they know how to tighten the belt besides spending $15,000 for somebody to come in and tell them how to save their money, or raising taxes. Something to think about.

Hi, this is Lombard calling. I just wanted to say that I called the village hall recently to try and get some information on where a person could park when they take the train downtown, just for the day. Nobody there seemed to be able to help me. The one person I talked to couldn’t give me any information but she did say that all of the places fill up by 7:30; but she transferred me to somebody else. Now, the village hall isn’t that large—I know they don’t employ that many people. You would think she would know the other person was going to be out for several days. I got a voice mail and was told the person would be out for several days. So why did the first person transfer me to the other person? Just to get rid of me, I bet. So, I had to call back and talk to somebody else, and that person didn’t know, either.

I just called to say peace on Earth and let’s all pray for a happy new year.

Lombard here. I was paying my water bill and pulled out this thing from a couple of years ago from the Citizensforlombard.org that said we could raise our sales tax by 1 percent and we all needed to vote yes so we could reduce our water and sewer rates and we could all save $200 a year on the average over the next 10 years. According to my water bill, it looks like rates have just gone up another 11 percent since the bill I pulled out when I got that card in the mail. Now, it’s going to cost me thousands of dollars over the next 10 years. Where’s all this money going for the 1 percent sales tax. Is there anybody in the village who can answer this or are we not going to hear from them? It sounds like we’re seeing the same thing going on here that we’re seeing in Washington—just grab more money from all the taxpayers and spend it all.

Hi, Lombard calling. Well, our lovely village is doing it to us again. For those of you who are seniors, maybe you have to have Comcast for your television. Of course, the village doesn’t allow anyone else in, because that would be competition and lower rates. The other thing that really annoys me is I asked Comcast a number of times about a senior rate, because I do live on a very fixed income of a pension, and they said they’re working on it. Then, when I spoke with a Comcast representative who came to the door to see how pleased I was with my service, I asked about senior rates and he said other towns have it, but Lombard doesn’t allow it. How do you like that for being kicked in the face?

Joelyn Kott, communications and marketing coordinator for the Village of Lombard, explained: “Lombard’s franchise agreement with Comcast does not offer a senior citizen rate. It’s not that Lombard doesn’t allow it but it is not a part of the franchise agreement. As for competition, the village welcomes any and all competition for residents.  Currently, AT&T U-Verse is offered in certain sections of the village and approved permits indicate further areas are currently being readied. To determine if a specific area is able to be serviced by AT&T, call 1-800-288-2020 or check out the U-Verse availability at www.Uverse1.att.com.”—JAC
