I was watching the Blackhawks play and it’s really amazing that a business like the Blackhawks brings all these people in from around the country and they spend all this money in Illinois. Why is it that the governor doesn’t understand that taxing the duff out of Illinois businesses and people is not what you want. What you want people to do is spend money here on our businesses. He’s doing the wrong thing. We need to stimulate business like the Blackhawks, get it?

Could someone please tell me when the busy hours are for the emergency vehicles so that I don’t get sick at that time? I’m also upset to find out that as a Lombard resident my life is only valued at $250,000. I think I’d better move.

Hi, this is Villa Park calling. After attending the Willowbrook graduation ceremony, why would the school board president, once again, whom the students do not know, give a 10-minute speech—the same repeated speech—year after year. Please, Mr. Krause, have a speaker the students know and who is inspirational. We find no humor with him.

Hello, Lombard. I was calling to find out when the park district will be announcing taking vacancy applications for Keith Giagnorio’s position.

Paul Friedrichs, executive director of the Lombard Park District, explained: “The park board has made no determination about filling the position at this time. They will take up the matter at the July 27 regular board meeting. If they do fill the position, that individual would have to run in next April's election to stay on the board.  Regardless of what they do now, there will be four seats open next April, a two-year term, a four-year term and two six-years terms.”—JAC

To the person complaining about the president, he is trying very hard to correct all the problems that Bush caused, and as far as the oil spill, do you expect him to go to the gulf, snap his fingers and make the oil disappear? He is not God, but a hard worker.

A woman wrote to speak out on 6/23 that several cherished garden items were taken from her yard.  Those items, along with a bird bath, were put in my yard as a teenage prank. I reported this to the Lombard police.  Please call the police station and they will get in touch with me so I can return your items to you.

Lombard calling, on the 100 block of South Highland Avenue. We had a yellow fire hydrant that is in the front of our yard and this is the second time a particular vehicle has decided to park right in front of it. However, this is the first time that a Lombard police vehicle has passed it without issuing a violation. I would like to know why Lombard decides not to issue tickets anymore.

Is it true that District 45 administrators did not end up taking a pay freeze?

Jean Hockensmith, District 45 spokesperson, responded: “The District 45 Board of Education members have publicly stated that they support the administrators taking a zero increase in their salaries.” In a press release on Tuesday, June 29, Hockensmith indicated that the school board on Monday, June 28, approved “a 0 percent increase in the salaries of the administrators for the 2010-11 school year.” She noted that this was based on a recommendation made by Superintendent Dr. Janice M. Rosales.—JAC

Hi, Lombard calling. Again this year I was dreading the Taste of Lombard. I no longer think it’s fun to watch intoxicated people stagger around, sometimes with their children in tow. A year ago there was one guy who must have awakened after the fireworks were over, who kept yelling and tossing a garbage can down the street at 2 a.m., over and over. It seemed like he went on forever. I’m sorry; I’m just too disgusted with the whole Taste of Lombard thing, especially in the hard economic times we’re facing when people are losing their jobs, homes and savings. This money could be used for far better things.

A little yard maintenance request here, Lombard. If you’ve got trees, shrubs, bushes, etc., hanging over and blocking the sidewalks, please trim them so that those of us who are walking can get around. And, don’t leave cars and trucks blocking the sidewalks as well. Hey, and while you’re outside cleaning up the yard, check out that flag. Does that American flag of yours need to be replaced? If it’s worn or tattered, please do so.

Lombard calling. To the people who write “At This Stage,” if they’re looking for a video store, Corner Video is a fairly new place at 1049 E. St. Charles Road in Lombard. Stop in; they’ve got a great deal. One-price pricing.

I’m so tired of driving around in Villa Park and seeing the streetlights on 24/7. Why are you wasting our money to have the streetlights on? I’ve called and left locations where they are and they’re still on.

This is Lombard speaking. Our neighbors got robbed on June 28 and I talked to a DuPage County sheriff and he said there’s been rash of robberies with the same MO, targeting people who are not home from 7 a.m. to noon. It’s happened in Lombard, Elmhurst and Glen Ellyn, and it happened a few days before that in our neighborhood about a block behind which I never heard about. I’ve been looking in the local papers but there’s no listings of these burglaries. They’re kicking in the back door and opening all the doors and running out and I think people should be aware. We notified our neighbors to look for suspicious cars. If the police suspect a rash of burglaries, it would be nice to have a heads up so we can watch out for each other.

To the person who responded about the fire trucks, number one, we don’t have enough fire engines in this town if there were a fire; and number two, we don’t have firemen to man those fire engines. Why couldn’t they take a smaller vehicle instead of wasting all the fuel and sitting in front of a parking lot? Let’s stop and think people. Let’s look out for the town’s safety and protection. And another thing, as far as fire engines, they’d better get a grip on how many fire engines we have and they want to get rid of ladder 51? I don’t think so. We’d better think and really look around. Let’s use a smaller vehicle when we go to the grocery store.

To the person who told people in SPEAK OUT not to worry about a parked fire truck; don’t say, don’t worry. People who pay taxes must and should ask questions about government and government employees. Government is not a responsible agency—it must be watched and questioned until it is proven to be responsive to the people. We pay the bills; they do the spending.

Hi, this is Lombard calling. On a Sunday morning I was walking down the Great Western Trail enjoying all the beauty of nature and all of a sudden I saw a For Sale sign along the path. Is this allowable? Is there an ordinance against this? This is just wrong. Someone please, see if this is possible.
