Yes, Lombard calling. I’m just wondering who is responsible for cutting the weeds between Route 53 and 355 from St. Charles down to about Madison. It’s terrible looking down there. I don’t know if that belongs to the state, the village. There are no homes there. We have to cut our weeds on our property, if we have weeds. It would seem like some government entity ought to be responsible for this. Thank you.

“The Illinois Department of Transportation has jurisdiction of the property between IL Route 53 and I-355 between St. Charles Road and Madison. Any concerns related to the conditions should be forwarded to IDOT Region 1 Office at 847-705-4000,” responded Carl Goldsmith, director of the Village of Lombard Public Works Department.—JAC

Is there anyone locally to whom I could complain about a business that doesn’t keep up with their license? It was unable to show me a current license to do a service, and there’s got to be someone local. People should be frightened. They’re unlicensed.

Concerns about business licensing can be addressed to Denise R. Kalke, business administrator for the Village of Lombard, at 630-620-5913 or kalked@villageoflombard.org. “Feel free to forward any concerns to my attention,” she stated.—JAC

I was wondering how long a dumpster could sit in front of a driveway, with garbage in it.

“At present, the village currently does not have a specific time limit for when a dumpster can be placed upon a property. However, if dumpster material is overflowing, the village may follow up with code enforcement action. From a property maintenance standpoint, village staff is in the process of reviewing our current dumpster regulations and issues to ensure that such enclosures are not negatively impacting other properties,” related William J. Heniff, AICP, director of community development for the Village of Lombard.—JAC

Hi, this is Lombard calling. How could you possibly print the Lombardian without the Halloween trick-or-treat hours listed, and you have a Sudoku answer but no puzzle? Good job.

Halloween hours were published in the 10-20 edition. As for the Sudoku puzzle, it was inadvertently omitted.—JAC

Hi, this is Lombard calling, and I’m responding to the person who sent the birthday card to the daughter who lives a few blocks away and still hadn’t received the birthday card. The Lombard Post Office is absolutely horrid as far as delivery goes; not only getting cards that you drop off there—and I drop off most of my mail at the post office in front—I don’t even bother to mail any Lombard cards because it takes weeks to get anywhere in Lombard and I’ve been complaining about this and it’s impossible. Anything I have for a resident in Lombard I mail from Glen Ellyn or Wheaton, where I work. I have no trouble—the next day the people in Lombard get their mail. I have no idea why you mail something in Lombard and it takes so long to get to that Lombard person.

This is Lombard calling to all the residents of Lombard. Please call your trustees and the Lombard Planning Commission to protest the fact there are a group of citizens who want to have an ordinance changed in Lombard, allowing for the raising of chickens in the back yards. This is opening Pandora’s box. This could present a lot of other problems, attracting other types of wild animals. Do you want to live in a farm area or do you want to live in a nice residential area? Remember, this is going on right now. They’ve got petitions out there.

Yeah, two weeks ago the Lombardian wrote an article about the ordinance in March regarding firewood and how much a person could store on their residence. If the village wants to start paying my heating bill in the winter, they can regulate how much firewood I keep on my property. This is not a socialist government. Butt out, Village of Lombard.

I see that the College of DuPage is always getting grants for different things, and while it’s nice they can use those dollars to upgrade and/or build new facilities, it seems they don’t think about where the money is going to come from down the road to operate and maintain them once the grant money is spent; just like the referendum was supposed to help expand the new homeland security center. Well, if they didn’t have the money to build it and keep it running, it should not have been built in the first place. Now they want us to stay on the hook for that and other upgrades? Would I add a room to my house if couldn’t afford to furnish it? I don’t think so.

It’s Tuesday, Oct. 26, and it’s really, really windy. I was thinking; maybe we could enact some kind of law that would control the speed of the wind. Does that sound ridiculous? Does that sound any more ridiculous than controlling the temperature of the planet? Some of you global warming zealots think we could enact laws to control the temperature of the earth. Why can’t we enact laws to control the speed of the wind?

I think it’s time the Village of Lombard Police Department starts handing out tickets to those people who park in front of the Helen Plum Library to pick up or drop off children. That’s not the purpose of that particular spot; at least half the time I try to return books there I’m not able to because people are parking there to pick people up or drop them off. That’s not what the parking there is for. The handicap parking obviously needs to be there, but as far as using this zone as a waiting place for people to pick up or drop off other people, that’s not what it’s for. I’d like to see tickets being written up. I’m tired of having to park somewhere else to drop off my books, which is what that spot is for.

Trustee Zachary Wilson sent the following in response to correct a SPEAK OUT caller who stated that the trustee voted for a measure to charge residents for citizens assistance:

“The SPEAK OUT caller who suggested I should be ashamed of myself ‘...for voting to try to charge people for citizens’ assist. These people are very sickly and they don’t work, and least able to afford to pay for that kind of care. We should try to help them’: I actually voted against that proposal. It was Trustee Gron who voted for it.”—JAC

The answer to someone’s question about cars parked on the sidewalk was to call the police. Yes, this is one answer, and another is for the police, while on patrol, to issue tickets when they see it. Don’t say they do, as I’ve seen them drive right past a blocked sidewalk on my block. Why do people who are out with a cane, pushing someone in a wheelchair, using a power chair and the like, have to go out in the street because someone is using the sidewalk for a parking space? Police, do your job and this will clear itself up.

I would like to send a sincere thank you to Lombard Town Centre (LTC) for a great Spooktacular this year.  We live on the south side of Lombard and we don’t go into downtown as often as we should. However, the fest was incredible this year and my family found their new favorite stores and restaurant; Bricks, Fairy Tales and Sweet Street. Then I had the opportunity to speak with some people at the LTC booth. What a great group of dedicated, knowledgeable people. Kudos to you all for trying to make a difference in our town. You have this family’s complete support. Keep up the great work.

To the people who complain about the once a week Cruise Nights, how happy are they now that St. Charles and Main Street are all torn up seven nights a week?

Hello, Lombard. Thank you to all of our professional firefighters who came out to Touch-A-Truck. It was a beautiful thing. I hope we will see them next spring at the Lilac Parade.
