Hello York Center, York Township. What is being built over by the Senior Citizens Center by Montini and the park and all of that?

According to Alex Bauman with DuPage County Public Works, it is a 1-million-gallon water tower that is being constructed by the county for a “special service area” in York Center. He said the tower will bring in Lake Michigan water to replace a private well. The framework is completed, but welding and other construction will resume in the spring.—JAC

Following are the reasons I did not vote for Mitt Romney: One, he abused his dog. Two, he degraded 47 percent of the people by calling them moochers. Three, he’s involved in closing down companies by sending jobs overseas, putting thousands of people out of work to make a huge profit. Four, if he is supposed to be so religious, evidently he doesn’t believe in “whatsoever you do to the least of my brethren you do unto me.”

This is Lombard calling on Nov. 7. I’m curious to find out when the bridge to nowhere, the bike path bridges are supposed to be done. They had the date of Nov. 28 so now it’s going to be extended for this year. It’s probably going to be extended all winter and all next spring. Is there a definite date when the bridge to nowhere is going to be finished? I mean the Great Western Trail over the railroad tracks and over St. Charles.

Since May 5, 2011, it has been against village policy to acknowledge or respond to any item that is from an anonymous source. Although I could not obtain an answer from a village representative, I can tell you that I noticed in the latest issue of Lombard Pride that the beams have been put in place on the Great Western Trail Bridge at St. Charles Road and Grace Street. The project is progressing and is expected to be completed in the spring. If you have additional questions regarding this project, contact the village hall at 630-620-5700 for assistance and remember, you must give your name.––blm

I just saw the picture of code enforcement in the Lombardian picking up election signs. I’m wondering if maybe code enforcement should be concentrating on some of these houses in the village that are falling down on themselves and bringing down the value of the rest of our homes in Lombard. Maybe they should be concentrating on these kinds of houses and getting them fixed up instead of picking up signs.

This is Lombard calling. I, too, have neighbors who leave their dog barking all day in the yard but tonight, I feel like taking their dog and putting it in my yard to see how they like it.

I truly enjoy the online version of the Lombardian. Going through it, article by article, I’ve come to “Straight Forward.” Bonnie, you have had the same article in “Straight Forward” about the three trustees walking out for over a month now. Either it’s a glitch in the system or you’re not writing or publishing it on the Internet. It’s an enjoyable little article; could you please start making it so I don’t have to read the same article every week?

The “glitch” has been addressed. Thank you.—blm

A few weeks ago I was driving on Roosevelt Road and Summit in Villa Park when I did the unthinkable. I made a right turn on a red light and only stopped for two seconds, instead of the mandatory three. This terrible mistake cost me $100. Good for you, Village President Cullerton. You got my $100. The other thing you did, however, is make me decide not to shop in Villa Park any longer. As of today, no more local businesses or purchasing a car like I did in Villa Park for the last two. I’m a Lombard resident and Bill Mueller used to say, “Shop Lombard.” I suggest all Lombardians do the same. This can happen to you. Thank you, Lombard, for removing the lights, and remember, in Villa Park you not only have to worry about gang activity, you have to worry about the village robbing you.

Hi, this is Lombard calling. I would just like to speak out in regard to the actions of Acting President Peter Breen. I’m appalled that he took the liberty to use exact insignia to sign the president’s comments in the latest issue of the Pride newsletter that has been the late, great President Bill Mueller’s sign-off on all of his correspondence for the last 20-odd years—by signing his first name and stating, “With Lombard pride.” Some respect should be shown by not attempting to copy something that truly was part of President Mueller’s legacy. Mr. Breen should realize no one can fill the shoes of the late village president. All of this coming from the same trustee who insulted Mueller during a televised board meeting by accusing him of acting like a king. From day one of being sworn in as acting village president, I can’t believe all the pomp and circumstance by having to even introduce his entire family. Apparently he has forgotten he was not elected to the position but merely picked under very sad circumstances.

Lombard calling. Here’s a little bit of grocery store check-out etiquette. You’re in line and you’ve got all your stuff on the belt and you’re just standing there, that’s the time to prepare to pay. At the end, you have to pay. Get your wallet out, get your checkbook out, get your credit card out, whatever. Number two, if you’re buying $3.14 worth of stuff and you’re in the 15 item or less line, try and pay cash or at least know how your credit card or debit card works so we don’t have to stand behind you with our orders, waiting for you figure out how to press the button. And then, probably most of all, if you’re in the 15 items or less line, don’t get in there with 30 items. There’s a 15 item line for a reason. Have a happy holiday.

Hi, this is directed to one business in downtown Lombard. It is Small Business Saturday shopping day. You open up at 11 o’clock. There were four of us standing outside your store at 11 o’clock waiting to come in. It was not open even though the sign said open at 11. So, another store got the business. Too bad. You should have been open.

Hi, this is Lombard calling. I would like to point out to the caller talking about Abraham Lincoln’s assassination, if you think about the context around his assassination, he did not get assassinated because he wanted to stop borrowing money from the British, the war with the states was ending so there was no need to borrow money from the British anymore. He got assassinated because the North had won the Civil War. Please, please, read history.

After a disastrous election day, the Republican Party should probably finally reassess itself. For starters, they should become a little more moderate; losing the attitude toward women’s health issues would certainly help. Something to consider for the next election cycle.

Hello all you SPEAK OUT readers. You’re a very intelligent group and I need some help. Thanksgiving is one day, Thursday. The post office works on Friday and Saturday. They’re going broke, but how can our county offices and township offices close and get a four-day weekend? The state is going broke, yet these people aren’t working. Something’s wrong somewhere. We seem to give them more benefits than anybody else. I think everybody should work for the county or the township. Private enterprise can’t afford to give it away like that. Something’s wrong somewhere, folks. Please give me an answer.

Hi, SPEAK OUT, this is Villa Park calling. I think our Christmas decorations are so lame. Half of them don’t work, they don’t light up, they’re dirty, and we pay good money to have people put those up. They’re the same ones year after year. We really need new ones; maybe our tax dollars can buy them. I’ve been to very small towns out west that have way better decorations than we do. I think our decorations are very sad and gloomy and they don’t work. It’s not very cheerful to live in town during Christmas where your decorations are that bad looking.

Lombard calling. To the five boys who were out harassing your neighbors, ringing their doorbell constantly, my mom was in our home on hospice dying. Sorry I didn’t have time to join you in your fun. I hope your parents are proud of you. Just to let you know, I did notify the police. In case this should happen again, I will also be notifying them.

Lombard calling. I’m not sure if the village realizes this, but they put their decorations upside down. On the north side of town they have the garland underneath the wreath; on the south side of St. Charles on Main they have the garland on the top and it doesn’t look good. Merry Christmas.

I don’t live in Lombard anymore but I just passed through Lombard about a week ago and saw that the Lombard Kmart was going out of business, that there was a liquidation sale. What a sad moment. I actually worked there from 1978 to roughly 1981-82. Very, very sad to see a Lombard icon going out of business. Thank you, Kmart.

I’m the person who called about Glenbard East robo calls. A little rebuttal to someone who said I would complain if they didn’t call. Actually, I would never complain if I never got a robo call from Glenbard East. My kid goes there, I go on their Web site and I can find out all the information I need from their Web site. I do not need them sending me robo calls. I’m going to try putting this politely—it was sarcasm. No, I do not expect them to call 2,000 families personally. Perhaps you didn’t get the gist of it. It was Sunday evening, family dinner time. Perhaps you don’t have dinner with your family. My family and I do. It’s something that shouldn’t be interrupted with pointless phone calls from the school, so it was sarcasm. I was asking for the vice principal’s phone number so I could jokingly call her and interrupt her Sunday dinner. Wow. Holy cow. I am not sure what else to respond to this person but please, Glenbard East, don’t ever call me again. And no, I won’t complain if they don’t call me.

To the caller who gave the blind endorsement of John Novak for village president, please make sure you check his record before you pledge allegiance to him. All I can tell you is that I would never support him.

To the person who called in about the assassinations of Lincoln and Kennedy and then prattled on about the Panama Canal, what in the heck are you talking about? Boy, did you open yourself up; maybe for a “you’ve-got-to-be-kidding-me” award. Seriously? You really believe that stuff?
