If the village manager wants to get rid of the deputy chief’s department vehicle, why not trade it in for a taxi cab, instead of selling it on eBay? That would seem to work better with what the vehicle is used for.

Hello, Lombard. I was reading in the Pride newsletter about how Sgt. Kundrot and his staff will be over at Lexington and Beacon Hill educating the seniors on what they do to keep them safe. I think it would be better spent with our tax dollars to be working with the young adults of this community to not text and drive, not drink and drive, staying away from drugs, go back to the DARE program. Let’s take care of these kids. I think the seniors are safe enough at Lexington and Beacon Hill.

On Friday, Oct. 5, at Road Ranger in Lombard around lunchtime, a non-partisan organization called Americans for Prosperity rolled back gasoline prices to $1.88 a gallon. This was the price of gasoline right before Barack Obama took office. I want to thank Americans for Prosperity organization for going on the Obama’s Failing Agenda Tour and opening up people’s eyes.

Lombard here. I would appreciate it if whoever you are would stop stealing my Romney-Ryan signs out of my yard. I believe a person is allowed to support whomever they choose. Of course, it doesn’t surprise me. You did the same thing for both Bush elections and look who won. Keep up the good work. I would be scared too, if I were you, especially after the debate.

Hi, Lombard calling. That would have been me who took down Glenbard East’s posters for their Beatles revue. I think the Prairie Path is one of the few places we have that is just nature. No advertisements, no signs, no nothing else besides trees, bushes and a well-maintained Prairie Path. Again, I would hope that everybody would appreciate the pristine nature of the Prairie Path and leave all advertisements off the Prairie Path and put them all the other places they can be put.

Hi, Lombard calling. I’d like to thank Superior Ambulance for taking me back home from Good Sam. The ambulance driver and assistant, Danielle and Brian, you guys were great, kept me comfortable. They’re very pleasant people and Superior should be very proud to have workers like you.

Hi, Lombard calling. A longtime reader, first-time caller. I just wanted to give a lot of kudos out to Amy and Dave at Iron Dragon Gym. They run a boot camp a couple of days a week and I’ve been taking it for a couple of months now and have lost some weight and am really building some great core strength, so I would recommend it to anyone who’s looking for a great way to lose weight and a good boot camp to take. It’s Iron Dragon Gym, Iron Dragon Boot Camp. Amy and Dave run it.

Lombard calling. I’d like to know if anyone knows of someone who could possibly help me. I’m a double amputee and I live in a house with stairs. So what I need is someone to help or someone to call to assist me in getting down the stairs to the doctor. Down the stairs is the most important thing. My husband can rent a van with a wheelchair lift for the doctor, but getting down the stairs is what I really need. Thank you.

This is Villa Park calling. I’ve lived here about 14 years and it’s been a nice suburb up until the past two years now. I used to have a big tree in front of my house, but unfortunately the ash beetle came and killed it. For one year I looked at a tree stump in front of my house. Now I come home and I look at a big pile of wood chips on our lawns on the north side of town. Must be the new Villa Park tree—wood chips. But you know, the funny thing about it is, the trustees want a dog park. We can’t even afford to do the basic things the village needs, like trees, grass, stuff like that. But, we get a dog park. Great job. I can’t wait to move.

The Lombard citizens should be outraged right now over the misuse of the deputy police chief Patrick Rollins racing over to the golf course with the Irish golfer. According to the Sun-Times, he had red lights and sirens blaring. That means he apparently was putting everybody else in danger. People’s lives were in danger for him to give a ride over to Medinah for a golf course. That is a misuse of municipal property. He ought to be fired or demoted.

It is not the job of a police department to provide emergency escort to a tourist for a non-exigent circumstance. I am disappointed that our village allowed this to happen. We pay taxes for our police to protect the residents, not chauffeur millionaires when there are others in place to do this job. It was a poor decision.

I would like to thank Mr. Dion for an excellent letter to the editor. He made some very valid points and I agree the three trustees seem to have a hidden agenda from their actions. Do they really think that this behavior would be tolerated in a Fortune 500 company? Not on your life. I live in District 5 and would love to have a trustee such as Giagnorio or Gron. Laura Fitzpatrick is the poster child for term limits, with her seemingly unprofessional and childish behavior. We need a trustee that’s vested in the district and the residents within that district, not someone who’s apparently looking for delusions of grandeur beyond Lombard. Sign me up for Giagnorio for village president campaign and bring some dignity back to our village.

Lombard calling. I just read the article about the deputy police chief rushing the golfer to his golf game so he could be on time. If I’m running late for my job, can I call the deputy police chief and have him rush me to my job with flashing lights and sirens? Talk about a waste of our money. Lombard, you are becoming disgusting.

Hi, this is Lombard calling in regard to Rory McIlroy’s driver who helped him capture the Ryder Cup. I think it’s great that in the economy the way it is today, with houses being foreclosed all around Lombard, three on my block alone; there’s no money and people are starving, that my tax dollars would be spent for the Lombard Police Department to drive a millionaire golfer to the golf course. Boy, we’ve got our priorities in the country messed up big time. Congratulations, way to get Rory there on time. Good job. I’m guessing you probably got paid overtime for that because it was a Sunday.

Hi, Lombard calling. I just took a ride to the north end of Park Street up by the Terrace View Pond just to see what the people are talking about who call in there all the time. I’m so glad I live down in Green Valley. If I lived near there I’d probably have sinus trouble all the time. You people should look at the bright side of things. You could ice skate on that thing all summer. It’s just a little green and thick.

I just read about the deputy police chief giving a ride to the golfer who was going to miss his tee time at Medinah. There are a few questions I’d like to know. Was that in an official vehicle? Was that for the benefit of Lombard, Ill., and if he was given a ride, was the golfer given a bill, or did the taxpayers of Lombard have to pay for the time, which would be salary; the fuel, which would be in driving; and the expense of taking a vehicle off our Lombard streets. I hope you can get an answer to this. If not at least print it and let people know. Thank you very much.

Hey, Villa Park. We used to be known as one of the three Tree Towns, along with Elmhurst and Lombard. But now, in that our village is not replacing trees and leaving a lot of dead trees on the street and not trimming the existing trees, we’re fast becoming the Treeless Town. And, we know that trees help increase property values, and that’s probably why our property values lag behind Elmhurst and Lombard. It’s time for some leadership in village government.

Hi, Lombard calling. I’m sure you’ve all read the great article in all the papers about our deputy chief of police getting the European golfer to the Ryder Cup on time. I hope other people besides me are bothered by this. Number one, why is the deputy chief of police on a Sunday pulling security guard duty at the Westin? Seems to me an abuse of taxpayer money. These golfers are filthy rich. They can afford their own security. Second of all, would we be saying what a great, great thing this guy did if he would have gotten in an accident driving with lights and siren from Lombard to Medinah? What kind of liability would that be for the village? Is that a misuse of lights and siren? I think it is. I don’t think we get to use lights and siren when we’re late for work and I don’t see why some spoiled prima donna golfer should be able to either.

To the Lombardian who bashed teachers and their union, they want job security because principals are now coming in and reportedly lying about evaluations and they are the judge and jury. Highly paid teachers with great experience are being systematically removed in the good suburban districts. I know of one and it’s going to happen in Chicago if they don’t stand up for it. They won that in their contract. Hurray for them. It’s protection.

I’ve been an American citizen for 76 years, never had a ticket or arrest. In August I had to renew my voter registration card. I went to the library, showed a picture ID, no problem, filled out the form, took the oath, etc. Two months later, no card. Had to call the library twice, they assured me it was sent in, then given a number to call; Monday, Oct. 1, and was told I was registered but the card still had not come. Are illegals getting amnesty and getting to vote without doing any of this?

Another day sitting and waiting for the trains. What is Villa Park going to do about these trains? They’re standing on the tracks. Now we’re waiting for the third freight train to go through. Great job, President Cullerton. You’re not getting re-elected again.

There have been several news stories around the world about a hero Lombard police officer, Pat Rollins, who saved the day for the European Ryder Cup Team. Rory McIlroy was still at the Westin hotel and needed a ride to Medinah Country Club, 13 miles away. He was given a ride, in an unmarked village squad car, to the golf course by a deputy police chief who happened to be at the hotel. McIlroy was quoted as saying he made it in less than 15 minutes. Rollins was quoted as asking McIlroy, “Do you get motion sickness?” That indicates the excessive speed and recklessness of the actions. My concerns are with all the resources and money that the PGA has this was the best they could do to get a player to the course? With the U.S. Secret Service, Illinois State Police, private security firm and members of the PGA, hotel staff and European officials all at the hotel, why did Rollins transport McIlroy? I am sure there is a policy regarding use of departmental vehicles and transporting of civilians and the use of lights and sirens for non-emergency situations. What is the civil liability and exposure to the village if there was a traffic accident and Rollins, McIlroy or another third party was injured because of his actions? Do the taxpayers of Lombard care that their police supervisors are making these kind of decisions? The village board should be reviewing the policies and decisions being made at the police department in Lombard.

This is Lombard calling. All our political signs are missing in this area. I want to say to whomever took the signs, it’s OK if you want to voice your opinions, but it’s not OK when it opposes yours? Let us keep our signs and I hope the police are investigating because I can see there are probably about 50 to 100 signs in our neighborhood that are missing, and that is a crime. So, police department, please, look for the person(s).

Hey, folks, I’m going to chime in on the Terrace View prairie restoration project. I have to agree with the last two people who called in. I think it’s an eyesore. That used to be a beautiful pond. That used to be a beautiful meadow. As far as an old-fashioned place to play, that comment I just found to be quite absurd. I have lived in this town since 1978. I would have never moved with my backyard abutting that if it looked the way it does now. That’s called a swamp, cesspool, weeds. Sorry, folks, I want to join the restoration committee so we can restore it back to the beautiful pond and the beautiful meadow.

Has anyone else noticed the mailings Deb Conroy has been mailing out? I’ve received about 10 in the past month. Early on, when four mailings arrived in the same week, I thought to myself that she seems to be very well funded. I started thinking about how important it is that Michael Madigan retain control of the state House, so why wouldn’t he fund and advise his candidate for the 46th District? Now the tone and images of the mailings are becoming increasingly nasty against her opponent, Dan Kordik. The latest mailing shows a death mask and others use Halloween-style lettering to paint a very distorted picture of Kordik. I'm actually a registered Democrat but there’s no way I can support Conroy, who I have to believe will support Madigan in continuing to run Illinois into the ground. Dan Kordik will get my vote for 46th District state representative.

This thing in Benghazi, why doesn’t the president of the United States come out and say it was terrorism? Everybody else in his administration, except Hillary, has not said that. Why doesn’t he just come out and say it was terrorism? Why, because he’ll look bad.

This is Lombard calling. Trustees Gron, Giagnorio and Ware showed real leadership by putting an end to Trustee Fitzgpatrick’s apparent farce. The my-way-or-the-highway attitudes of Fitzpatrick, Breen and Wilson have got to go. We’ve seen enough of that obstructionism from the Republican Party in Washington, D.C. We don’t need it in Lombard.

When it comes to school dances, I encourage all parents to talk to their sons and daughters about grinding. This is a popular and highly suggestive form of dance, which many schools have banned. Some schools are using the phrase, “face to face and leave some space” to remind students of what is appropriate. Talk to your kids, talk to other parents, look online; then, if you are concerned, talk to your school officials.
