Laws. Why do we have them when they are not enforced by the police department, namely, lights on when windshield wipers are going. Cars go by police cars and yet are not stopped. Why have laws?

Lombard calling. Just wondering about these people who are at the stoplights and Main and Roosevelt, and Highland and 22nd Street with their buckets and their T-shirts for charity. Do they have to get any kind of a permit? Are they allowed to be out there 52 weeks out of the year? Just curious. Anybody out there who might know? I know the village won’t tell us. Whoever might know, it would be interesting.

A SPEAK OUT contributor wrote in to say they were “listening to the news” and heard about Ohio voting laws and then blasted the Republican governor with false allegations. Really? “News” from where? The Obamanews network? Why not focus on the voting fraud that goes on in Illinois, decade after decade? Did you notice Illinois seemingly does nothing to stop fraud, where other states are finally trying to address the problem? What about that so-called attorney general who filed a lawsuit against each state trying to clear dead people off of voting rolls or against states wanting people to prove they are who they say they are when voting?

Let the games begin. Without an elected leader on our village board do the six trustees have the ability to organize themselves and pick a new leader until April? Will they do whatever is best for the residents or their own personal agenda? It is now time to take a long look at the big picture and and make the changes necessary in the village administration for everyone to move forward.

To the person who almost hit the vehicle on Main Street near the Prairie Path, no matter what the situation, keep in mind that it would likely be seen as your fault for following too close. I recommend people be extra cautious approaching the Prairie Path if another vehicle is in front of you, especially if it’s large and you can’t see if someone is crossing the Prairie Path, which would prompt that vehicle ahead of you to stop. That has happened to me, but thank goodness I was at a safe distance behind.

Someone called in last week about wanting bicycles to follow the same rules of the road as motorcycles. That’s absurd. Motorcycles ride and pass in street lanes like other vehicles; bicycles are supposed to ride in the direction with traffic but off to the side, or in a specific bicycle lane. Motorcycles do the same speed limit as vehicles; bicycles do not. The state has a set of rules of the road for bicycles.

The purple ribbons tied on so many trees around Lombard are a beautiful tribute to President Mueller. Thank you to everyone who put ribbons out in this touching show of support for the Mueller family. Mr. Mueller was a caring and genuine leader and will be deeply missed.

Have you ever heard of the phrase,”The glut that gets the taxes”? Well, the glut that gets the taxes is the Federal Reserve and they make sure our government stays in debt so they can borrow money from the Federal Reserve and pay the high interest rates. Do you know, ladies and gentlemen, that almost one third of our national debt is nothing but interest they pay on the money they borrowed from the Federal Reserve? Who is causing the problem? They twist the arms of the politicians and we stay in debt. This is why we have a big problem. Something’s wrong. We’ve got to get rid of the Federal Reserve.

The next Environmental Concerns Committee meeting is Sept. 25, at 7 p.m. at the village hall. The committee will be talking about or discussing the Lombard noise ordinance, which is 16 years old. If you have any concerns about residential loud noise, please call your trustee or e-mail him or her with your concerns. You can find his or her phone number or e-mail by calling the village hall at 630-620-5700 or going to the village Web site, www.villageoflombard.org. It’s time not to express any concerns about residential loud noise to our trustees.

Hey, Villa Park, do you know your village board is getting ready to approve a 10-story high rise rental building right down by the train station? If this isn’t the vision you had for the future of your village, I suggest you contact them immediately, as they are moving quickly on this.

Hi, this is response to the person if we knew where the country was headed. I think everybody knows where this country is headed. My question is, how did we get into this handbasket?

Hey, folks, here’s the situation I think best illustrates the difference between a Republican and a Democrat. When everything came out about Bill Clinton, the liberals, including Juan Williams, a liberal pundit, decided that Hillary was the strongest, greatest woman ever for sticking it out in that marriage. On Aug. 28, Juan Williams was on TV and declared that Ann Romney, who has battled breast cancer and has MS, is nothing more than a corporate wife who’s never struggled a day in her life. That’s the difference between a Democrat and a Republican, a liberal and a conservative. We conservatives just can’t be that mean like you liberals. I find him disgusting.

How come the state does not ask for proof of insurance when we renew our license plate or driver’s license? If this is a law, the rule should be, no proof of insurance, no driver’s license or license plates.

Hi, Lombard calling. To the person who almost rear-ended the truck in front of them for stopping on the Prairie Path, perhaps you should enlighten yourself. Illinois law specifically states that if people, pedestrians are in the crosswalk—Prairie Path is clearly marked and the speed limit is only 25 mph—you’re supposed to stop. And, if you can’t stop while doing 25 mph, get off your cell phone and pay attention.

Villa Park calling. As a Villa Park homeowner, I have just read where we are going to get 250 rental units on the north side by the Metra train station, where we were told we were going to get condos. This is the end of Villa Park. Thank you, Villa Park.

I’ve got to tell you this folks, after watching three days of the Republican convention, I am stoked. I am pumped. I feel good about America again. The best line that I have heard—this brings me back to Ronald Reagan-type stuff—was when Mitt Romney said that when the world needs someone to do really big stuff you need an American. Folks, that resonates with me way more than there are less Americans working now because it’s George W. Bush’s fault. Four years of Obama telling us we don’t have jobs, that our houses are worth 30 percent less, that the rest of the world is better than us and it’s George W. Bush’s fault. I agree with Mitt Romney. Hope and change, it’s back. Yes you did, but no you won’t. Not again. We’re taking our country back. Thank God.

Lombard calling. After viewing Clint Eastwood’s speech at the Republican National Convention, I am struck by the fact that not everybody can be good at everything. While Mr. Eastwood is an outstanding actor and director, he should leave stand-up comedy to the professionals. I can’t believe anybody, even the most rabidly conservative Republican, found it even mildly amusing. It appears there is a President Obama who exists only for Republicans.

Hello, Glenbard East. Well, sorry that new football field didn’t help the team very much, but the band sounded great.
