To speak out, send your message to Speak Out!

Congratulations to the 2013 World Series Champions Boston Red Sox; but not so fast. Republican Ted Cruz has demanded the game be replayed or he will shut down baseball because he didn’t like the outcome.

Yes, It’s called “Speak Out,” not “Spew Out.” If we want to hear people regurgitate what they’ve heard on Fox News, well, we don’t want to hear people regurgitate what they’ve heard on Fox News, so stop it.

Weekly recap on SPEAK OUT calls, yes, the Village of Lombard should fund the pensions to avoid a crisis like the state has; people walking and bikes must stop at signs on the Prairie Path; if you want a Cook Brothers in Lombard call them, not SPEAK OUT; a haunted house is in Yorktown because the vacant stores in the center of town did not want it, next year it could be at Mr. Z’s; people happy to save $6.67 on taxes this year, let me know how you feel five to 10 years down the road—this was apparently a political move, not a move to help the residents—ask Trustee Fitzpatrick about buying a TV; Rep. Pihos does have an office downtown—she cares about us, not looking for cheap political ploys like a current trustee; Cronin supports females in his appointments; Duckworth should answer to somebody about walking out; it’s November, let’s continue to talk turkey.

One business in downtown Lombard recently had the Stanley Cup on display and you had to buy a ticket to go and see the cup inside. It was not advertised to the public. Where is the money going? Who’s getting that money? Is it going to a charity that the Blackhawks feel good about or is it going to the business? It was a rainy day and families were coming out to see it but you couldn’t see it if you didn’t have a ticket.

We checked with Kelly Callese Nelms, owner and artistic director of Aspirations Dance Company in Lombard, who related the event was a fundraiser held by a parents’ group. The FIERCE Parent Booster Club, which marketed the event by reaching out to family and friends, sold over 600 tickets to view the Stanley Cup. The event raised funds to help the school’s FIERCE Dance Company compete at a national dance competition in New Jersey in July 2014.—blm

Thank you, Gov. Quinn, our wonder governor. Nestlé’s pizza division just announced it will move 300 jobs out of the state of Illinois for the state of Ohio. Gee, Gov. Quinn, it must be those wonderful tax increases you gave all the great people of the state of Illinois.

A Nestlé press release confirms that the company is, indeed, moving its pizza division to Ohio; and while the release did not say exactly how many jobs are on the line in Illinois, it was stated that the company expects to add roughly 250 jobs to the Ohio location. Nestlé pizzas include DiGiorno, California Pizza Kitchen, Tombstone and Jack’s. The pizza division was acquired from Kraft Foods in 2010.—JAC

To all you overburdened taxpayers, the governors, the senators, the congressmen, whoever is in politics, including our president. Let’s stop giving our money away to countries to fight a war. We can’t afford to pay our bills, we can’t afford the high taxes that are being imposed on us, yet we give the money to the other countries so they can fight, so we can supply them with guns, planes, rockets and bullets, etc. This is nonsense. Let’s stop all that and take care of our people first. We work for the money. We earned the money and we should be the only ones getting it. Goodbye.

I’d like to thank the Village of Lombard for being so generous to Waste Management and not to the citizens of Lombard. Since they changed the last free day for pick-up of leaves and have it ending the week before Thanksgiving, instead of the week after Thanksgiving, which is the way it’s been done for the last few years, Waste Management will likely be making thousands of dollars off of everyone who is finishing cleaning up their leaves over the Thanksgiving holiday, when the last few years it would have been a free week. So, I’d like to thank the Village of Lombard for being very nice to Waste Management. Thank you, goodbye.

You are mistaken about the end of the free pick-up date. The free leaf and yard waste collection ends Saturday, Nov. 30, not the week before Thanksgiving, according to an article published in the Oct. 16 edition of the Lombardian.—JAC

I get tired of the Fox News bashing. While the shows are generally conservative, I have always seen liberals, left-wingers and/or Democrats—however you want to describe them—as guests invited to debate and present their side of the story. There are lively disagreements of opinion and philosophy on a number of shows, that I don’t see on some of the other networks. I do want to hear both sides of the issues, and I get it from Fox News more than the other channels.

Hi from Lombard. I want to comment on a new political trend. I’ve noticed that when Hillary gets asked too many questions about Benghazi, all she can say is, “It’s over. Get over it. Let’s get on with it. No one’s to blame.” The health secretary, she gets asked questions and winds up saying, “What difference does it make? Let’s just get on with it.” Duckworth walks out on a meeting and says, “No comment” and will not respond. Our wonderful president makes all these speeches and what does he do, says, “That’s the way it is,” walks off the stage; no questions are allowed. So, it just seems to be a trend that starts at the top. Thank you.

Lombard calling. Some people in the Chicago area measure the seasons as winter and road construction. I personally think there’s winter and Dairy Queen season. I would like to thank Karyn and all of her caring and personable employees for a wonderful season and I look forward to them opening in February once again. I will miss the smiling faces and the warm hearts as much as my wife will miss her hot fudge sundaes. Thank you again and have a wonderful winter. Bye bye.

The SPEAK OUT caller stating SPEAK OUT should try to be local issues has a point. Charity begins at home. We have a lot of local government and other subjects to be covered that could be better executed and make Villa Park and Lombard the best place to live. Right now Obama doesn’t live here. Good bye.

Lombard. Sorry to see that our high school and elementary schools are not making the top 10 in academic areas on the state report card. For all the taxes I pay to the school districts, I would expect more. But then, how much of that money is really going into the classroom anyway?

Regarding “A rat’s next of concealment and lies,” a supposed statement by Bob Woodward regarding the Obama administration, I guess if you only get your quote from right-wing conspiracy Web sites, you’d believe almost anything. I fact-checked this quote, and find no record of it, not even in the paper Woodward writes for, the Washington Post. You need to check your facts before you quote.

SPEAK OUT did a fact check prior to publishing the comment. Bob Woodward made that statement as a guest on the Oct. 27 edition of the CBS show, “Face the Nation,” with host Bob Schieffer. That video can be viewed on bizpacreview.com and the blaze.com, among other sites. Google the phrase and Woodward’s name, and the word “video,” and the lengthy Web addresses will appear.—JAC

This is Villa Park calling. I just want the people in the Village of Villa Park, when they pay their taxes, to know this: Here it is Nov. 4 and they’re putting oil on the streets to save the asphalt? But, it appears they did not clean the streets first. So, we’ve got oil on the streets, oil on the leaves that are on the street and everything else. Common sense would tell public works, you clean the streets with the street sweeper and then you put the seal coating down. Great job, Villa Park.

For all the people who voted for Obama and wanted Obamacare, here are some statistics. From Oct. 1 until March, 38,461 people each day must sign up for the insurance. A Canadian company with questionable background was chosen to develop the programs needed. This company also had some connections in our government. Over $634 million was spent in over three years for their service, not counting stopping for the 2012 election. Now 93 million people will be dropped by their insurance companies because they do not comply with the new regulations. So far, six people have signed up on the first day, 100 the second and 248 on the third day. The computer program apparently is down more than it is up. Also, out of 18 top hospitals in the country, 11 will not accept the Obamacare insurance and 90,000 doctors will not participate by the year 2020. In Massachusetts, there is a 50-day wait to get an appointment with a doctor. I hope that all of you people who voted for Obama and wanted Obamacare are doing the dance of joy in the streets. How do you feel now?

Well, Lombard, most of District 44 schools did not meet state standards. You can thank the administration for the focus on eliminating handwriting and bringing in more computers gadgets for the children to play around with. Is this where you want your tax dollars going? Referendums get passed every few years and now look. Good luck.

Hi, this is a fellow suburbanite. What goes on outside of Lombard and Villa Park does involve us. The City of Chicago realizes a 61 percent suburban money grab when it comes to these stop light cameras and the speeding cameras. The best thing to do is not drive in Chicago, but if you have to, drive below the speed limit and stop at all stop signs and stop lights until the light turns green and traffic moves. Don’t give Rahm Emanuel anything he doesn’t deserve. This guy seems to eventually want to encroach on all the suburbs, just like he did in Bensenville, Wood Dale and Elk Grove Village. Thank you.

I know I’m going to get into a lot of trouble saying this, but aren’t our churches just as guilty as the politicians—the pope, the cardinals, the bishops, the priests, everybody else? Don’t they try to put up the most lavish buildings, the best statues, and then cry that folks aren’t contributing enough to the church? I think they’re just as guilty of overburdening the parishioners. Don’t overspend. Goodbye.

I am so fed up with the bureaucracy in this country. My 16-year-old granddaughter, who was born in this country, is required to provide five documents to the DMV in order to get her first driver’s license. She has to have something with her picture on it, something with her signature on it, her original Social Security card and two documents to prove her residency—bills or something. With the next breath, the state of Illinois is going to give an illegal alien, who shouldn’t have a Social Security card, who may or may not have utilities in his name, who probably does not have a picture ID, they’re going to just give them a driver’s license. I cannot believe it. These politicians are just pandering to these people because they see 3 or 4 million votes. That’s the next step and guess what, socialism. Thank you.

According to a press release issued by Secretary of State Jesse White, the license to which you refer is called a Temporary Visitor Driver’s License, or TVDL. It is going to be marked “Not valid for identification.” The requirement to get such a license includes proof of residency in Illinois for 12 consecutive months and having auto insurance prior to issuance, as well as a number of documents that must be presented before getting a TVDL, such as a passport or Consular Identification Card. Details are available at www.cyberdriveillinois.com.—JAC
