Well, the first Chicago resident who owns a concealed carry permit defended himself. He’s a man who was approached by two men. One of them pulled a pistol and tried to rob him. He drew his own legally carried pistol, fired on the two men and drove them off. So, if you’re a Chicago criminal, the days of just picking victims and being able to have them under your power are no longer that way. Concealed carry permit holders have changed the day in Chicago. It’s a good day. Thanks.

I would like to congratulate most of the primary election candidates; with the exception of a couple of judge candidates, the majority of them all got their signs and debris off the roadway within a week or 10 days after the election. Congratulations. That’s being a good citizen.

In regard to climate change, I don’t see how any of this can be controversial unless you’re a free market nut who denies anything that requires regulation to fix. Ninety-eight percent of climate scientists say humans are responsible for it. But let’s say that the 2 percent is correct; we should be taking care of nature and finding ways to pollute less anyway. “Best” case scenario, we prevent Earth from some irreversible climate change that could lead the death of most living species including humans. “Worst” case scenario, we advance technology, breathe cleaner air and leave a good planet for our children to live.

Are you a District 45 or 88 Lombard resident family living east of Grace Street?  Want to see more about your schools in this local paper? Try changing your subscription from the Lombardian to the Villa Park Review. The guts of the two papers are the same but the outside spread is tailored to either Lombard or Villa Park. We made the switch a couple of months ago and are very pleased with the District 45 and Willowbrook school coverage.

Hats off to Glenbard East High School nurse Mrs. Nancy Kramer and her nursing staff. This is my child’s senior year and we would have never gotten through these four years without these amazing women. My child struggled with difficult health problems and these women go above and beyond working with students, parents and teachers. They guide, protect, care and love our children as if they were theirs.

Furious in Lombard calling out to all residents with regard to the smart meters. As it stands presently, we have control of our lights and appliances in our own home and we are responsible for paying for what we use. Smart meters are nothing more than a device which now looks into your home and will have control over your usage and you. This is unconstitutional, an invasion of our privacy and against our rights as homeowners. Please, stand up, Lombard. Look to opt out and keep our rights. Call your village trustee and state representatives.

I had called in before saying I don’t want to use the Internet to pay bills, then someone called in commenting that I should get a block of ice to chill my food, and also stop by the library to see the benefits of the Internet. Meaning, I assume, that I am in the dark ages. No, sir or madam, I happen to have computers in my home with Internet service so I don’t need to go to the library. I am taking the position that I do not want to compromise my account numbers through cyberspace any more than I have to, no matter if a site says it’s secure. Sure, my mail could get stolen, but I have less faith in being secure on the Internet than I do about my mail being tampered with. And, there’s no need for the put-down just because someone disagrees with you. In fact, I am fairly tech-savvy, so your arrow missed its mark.

I live on South Lewis Avenue in Lombard. Maybe the reason I walk my dogs in the street is because of the inconsiderate neighbors who see no problem with blocking the sidewalk with their cars, sometimes 24 hours a day, seven days a week. That’s not very neighborly.

Lombard calling. I went to my mailbox today and there was no mail. Are you kidding me? No mail? Seriously? Seriously? Oh, wait, my neighbors have mail. Maybe, just maybe, I didn’t get any mail today. No junk mail, no fliers, nothing that’s going to stuff my garbage can? Thank you post office, I appreciate it. Love you, bye.

On Friday, April 11, I was driving on McGuire Drive, past the 7-Eleven when I saw flames coming from the ground just north of the building. I pulled over and saw that the mulch next to the propane tanks was on fire. I ran inside the 7-Eleven and yelled “Fire. Get a bucket of water.” A clerk then ran and put the fire out as it was spreading toward the propane tanks. I noticed several cigarette butts in the mulch. Please, please do not throw lit cigarette butts on the ground as it may cause a serious fire. We all need to be respectful of our Earth and our town.
Villa Park calling. A big thank you to the neighbors and ambulance crew who helped my husband when he fell at School Street and Yale. We’ve lived here for 50 years and it is a very good town. Thank you.

Hey Lombard, Villa Park. Anybody who has to go to Elmhurst, the state is working on North Avenue between Villa and 83. They’re going to be working on 83 between North Avenue and St. Charles Road and working on Roosevelt Road, both sides of 83 and all the way down to York. Every entrance in and out of Elmhurst looks like it’s going to be closed for a couple of years, no doubt.

Why does it seem that the Democrats, or those who disagree with Republicans, make snide remarks in SPEAK OUT, like calling it “Faux News,” to get their point across? That just distracts me from whatever message you intended. Another thing I’ve noticed is, along that same line, is that when a Democrat is asked about something a party member said or did, the response is not to address the question directly but to make an attempt to deflect it by instead pointing to something a Republican said or did. I have seen that pattern numerous times in TV interviews on all the channels. Can’t blame Fox News for that.

Hi, this is the person who pays his bills online, answering the person who called in, first of all, asking how I circumvent the post office by paying my bills online. One, I did not complain about raising the price of stamps because I have not used a stamp in four years. Two, how much am I paying for my online service? Zero. I have no charges. Three, you say you are putting postal information into cyberspace that is accessible to all. One, it is not postal information. It is my information. Two, I am far more savvy than to not have anti-virus, firewalls and everything else that goes along with it. Also, the bank guarantees my security in payment. Once again, you should join the person getting the block of ice to chill his or her food and go to the library. Maybe they could teach you something also. Have a good day.

Hi, this is Lombard calling. To the person who’s telling us to stick our head in the snow drift because of global warming, why don’t you take a look at a picture of the polar ice cap 20 years ago and a picture of it today? Enough said.

Still calling and talking about the Lombard Post Office. I am still getting ads and coupons that have expired, and I’ve also sent a card with a check in it on March 10 to someone in Chicago. It will be April 10 tomorrow, and they have still not gotten it. I have not had it returned to me. There was a return address label on it. Wondering, what do we do with all this missing mail, and where can we find it? It’s just really a mess. You expect people to get checks and cards that you send and it never shows up. Somebody’s got to do something about this post office. Thank you, SPEAK OUT.

Postal customers with delivery issues can call 800-275-8777 (800-ASK-USPS) or go online at usps.com. Concerns may also be addressed by calling consumer affairs at 708-563-7756. In the past, Beverly Howard, customer relations coordinator for the Central Illinois District of the United States Postal Service, reminded customers to document their delivery issues so the incidents may be investigated.—blm

To the people who walk their dogs on my corner property lot, please pick up after your dogs. I know who it is. I’ve seen you do it and the next time you do that and don’t clean up after your dogs, I’m going to call the police. Now, I know that people know what they’re doing when they let their dog go on someone else’s lawn and walk away from it. So, the fact that you’re doing that is just unacceptable. So, the next time you do it, we will call the police.

Hey, public works? When are you going to start running the street sweepers? There’s garbage all over from the melted snow and it’s absolutely a mess. We’re tracking it in the house, in our cars and somebody’s going to slip on it and have an accident.

Hi, this is Lombard calling. I’m hoping that Aldi will take over where Mr. Z’s was. Lombard needs a low-price, conveniently located grocery store. Thank you.
