Lombard calling. For those who object to calling President Obama a dictator, we can now use his own words to Prime Minister Hollande about being president. “I can do whatever I want.” Obama’s duty is to administer the laws of the land, not make them or change them at his whim. Only dictators do that.

I just moved to Lombard and, in my opinion, the best thing about living here is the Prairie Path. I love it for running and biking. If Villa Park can afford to clear the path of snow, why can’t we? Are our taxes any less than theirs?

* * *

Just finished reading an article that showed only 25 percent of Americans affiliate themselves with the Republican party and that’s an all-time low in 25 years since that poll began; really doesn’t surprise me though being all the crazy talk we hear from them on a daily basis.

We are a great town to live in because Lombard has much to be grateful for. We have the finest, superb, professional people who daily serve us, especially Gabe Suto and Brad Delatorre, the finest paramedics. Wednesday, Feb. 5, a hazardous snow-filled morning, my husband needed to get to the hospital for immediate medical attention. I called for the Lombard paramedics. The lady on the phone was most efficient and kind, and said that help was on the way. She indeed sent us help. No one can convince me that she didn’t send me two angels. Where do we begin to thank Gabe Suto and Brad Delatorre for their sincere dedicatIon to those in extreme need? The best way I can thank them is with my prayers. We are very fortunate to have them, for they are professional, kind, skilled and most caring. Thank you Mr. Suto and Mr. Delatorre. We wish to thank Mr. Delgato, a neighbor, who came to shovel our porch and driveway to make Mr. Suto’s and Mr. Delatorre’s charge less difficult. Generous, unselfish, caring people make Lombard a great town to live in.

It surprises me that some people get any mail delivery at all, given that they don’t keep their sidewalks shoveled. I thought if you didn’t have a pass to the mailbox the postal service was automatically declined. On the other side of the coin, try walking to the post office to mail a letter. None of the sidewalks on St. Charles Road or Grace Street by the new bridge were shoveled. People had to walk in the road. Talk about safety.

The Lombard Post Office is having a problem. Some of their carriers have injured themselves, broken bones in delivering our mail and now some routes are not being delivered at all. When a man or woman breaks a bone delivering my mail, that’s a personal tragedy for those people and for me to drive to the post office to pick up my mail is a minor inconvenience. I would urge all of us to endure with this problem as long as it exists. The people who do show up at the post office who are working and can work, do so in a professional and courteous way, and we need to also respond in a respectful and courteous way when we’re there picking up our mail for ourselves.

To the person constantly calling in to complain about the news and weather reports, this has been going on for way too long. Maybe you should just quit watching those programs. Next it will be about spring rain, summer heat, fall leaves and so forth for the rest of the year. Maybe it’s time to find something else to occupy your time. Get used to it. Reporting on the weather and world events is a fact of the TV news business. Please respect those of us who actually want to know what’s happening.

Hi, this is Lombard. Just want to get the word out to all the people who could possibly help out to keep the Deicke Home running; to put 16 people out of a home that they’ve only known almost all their life is a shame and I think the village should step up to help them. If anyone could help make a monetary donation it would be greatly appreciated, and if you haven’t seen the 16 wonderful people, please check out the Deicke Home. It is just heart-touching. Thank you and have a nice day. God bless you.

Attention all postal delivery service whiners. Use some common sense before complaining. Besides having more snow stay on the ground, a high percentage of people did not shovel snow, making walkways almost impossible to maneuver. What good does it do if only some sidewalks are clear? Let’s start coming down on the slackers. Let us promote our younger entrepreneurs into the snow shoveling business and clean up.

This is to the postmaster at the Lombard location. We have not had mail for two days. Why? Why is that? Can I pick my mail up at the post office? In that case, we don’t need any delivery people. Please let me know.

I thought I got lost and I was in the City of Chicago dodging pot holes. I was just on Grace Street, that’s all. Lombard ought to be ashamed of itself. Goodbye. Have a great day.

Mailmen are employees of the government. They have a job to do like everyone else who has to work outside in this weather. I am 58 years old and in my entire lifetime, I never remember not getting my mail on any given day, except for the recent months. I know it’s cold and snowy, but these government employees are not doing their job. Bottom line. My son is a plumber and is outside during this cold and snowy weather, helping people with their problems. He wouldn’t think of not doing his job because of the weather. I think it’s inexcusable that we don’t get our mail on time.

Hey, Lombard, just wondering when the village is going to get around to fixing the pot holes on North Grace Street. It kind of looks like a war zone. Does anybody know if the village is going to reimburse us for tire damage and wheel damage we get from driving on that street? Thanks.

Hi. I’m calling from Lombard. I really just continue to be amazed at how the library closes early when it snows. I guess I just don’t understand that. That’s our taxpayer dollars at work and I wonder, really why they couldn’t have a skeleton staff in there for people who need to use the library for various purposes. So yet again tonight, Feb. 17, they’re closed. When you call tonight, though, the recording says, “Hello, it’s Jan. 28 and the library is closed early.” Well, of course, it’s not Jan. 28, it’s Feb. 17. I guess they left in such a hurry they didn’t have time to record an accurate message. I’m stunned; our taxpayer dollars being used for that. Some of them are nicer than others but there are some really impolite people there who make you feel that you are bothering them. It’s not a bother when you’re closed so much.

The hill at Sunset Knoll is so nice for sledding. We were there in the morning, no school, Presidents Day 9 a.m.—just maybe two other kids. We went back around noon, oh, three other kids with a dad. How nice. We had the hill to ourselves. Obesity in America? You betcha; everybody’s home watching television, not sledding.

Good afternoon. This is Lombard calling. This is in regard to the person who had a small paragraph about Marguerite Micken, what great service she got because of who she is. I’m here to tell you I had called Dave Gorman right after the last big snow storm. He returned my call within an hour and had a crew by my house within the hour. And, I’m a nobody here in Lombard. Second thing: As far as the people talking about global warming, none of us knows about global warming. I don’t think any of us are that intelligent to criticize or critique global warming. Bewildering that Al Gore did get the Nobel Peace Prize for it, but on the other hand, it is what it is.

* * *

This is Lombard calling. Come on, Hammerschmidt School, what are you thinking, or are you thinking? Today, Feb. 19, 70 percent of the walk path from Stewart Street to the playground was a sheet of ice, surrounded by large berms of snow, leaving no place to walk. Both adults and children were falling.

* * *

I didn’t get my electric bill this month because of the poor mail service and their customer service rep said I could pay my bill at a currency exchange, so paid it there. She ran my check through the machine so the bill was paid instantly that day. She charged me $1 for this transaction.

Yes, Lombard and Villa Park, you need to contact the Village of Addison and see who did the paving week for them on Lake Street. I just drove from Villa Avenue to Church Road and back, and I did not see one pot hole in all of Lake Street. Whoever did their work did a great job.

* * *

I have a Lombard postal carrier who delivers the mail just fine. He doesn’t have a dog sled to get here but he gets here, no problem. I have no complaints. I have a complaint with the Lombardian agreeing to publish a “708” number to call. If you can’t complain to a "630" number, that’s pretty poor.

* * *

Ronald McDonald is lonesome. The news says there is a shortage of clowns. They are all in Washington or working on Obamacare.

* * *

With the near record snowfall in Lombard, we have to thank the Ortiz family and their extended family members for helping us shovel our snow away. Thanks and God bless you, and thanks to the public works department for doing such a great job in our subdivision.

* * *

This is for the ignorant person who called about global warming and called them weather experts. They’re not weather experts, they’re scientists, and no, as a scientist, they will admit they do not know all the facts, but I know one thing. They know more facts than you.
