Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan is questioning ComEd’s charge of $3 a month on our bills for the smart meter, and People’s Gas, a $5-a-month increase in monthly bills. How about the Chicago Tribune increasing my bill for daily delivery? The voice mail tells me the increase was due to all the coupons in the paper. At 77 years old, I don’t need them for diapers, men’s razors, cat or dog food, etc. The manufacturers are paying for print, so what I pay for the advantage of stuff I don’t need, I’ll probably drop the Chicago Tribune a couple of days to get back to somewhat manageable bills.

I just got my bill for the month of June for my telephone. To talk on the telephone wasn’t too bad, but the part that really set me off was I counted the fees and charges. There are 21 fees and charges. This is ridiculous. Our government has to stop this nonsense. This is ridiculous. If the government doesn’t stop it we have to get rid of most of the government. They don’t know what else to do but nit-pick and dollar and dime us to death. This is nonsense and it has to stop somewhere along the line. They’ve got to stop the spending and stop nit-picking everything we’ve got. There’s no money left anymore. I don’t care how much you make; it’s never enough for them. Speak up, and let’s bring this thing to an end. Goodbye.

Our government is finally figuring out we should have a closed border. Too bad they didn’t read this paper, because I’ve been calling in about it for years. America became No. 1 by Americans and immigrants who came here legally and worked hard to become citizens; not those here for entitlements, free medical care, etc. I think everyone is figuring out how to get a free ride and I’m wondering how long before we become a third-world country that everyone is coming to and running from. We send millions to these countries and we’re sending the people here for the working American taxpayer to support. We’re in debt. What country can we run to when our charity runs out?

Hello, this is Villa Park calling, wondering what is going up over there, this great big ugly gray building next to the beautiful Villa Medical Arts. I don’t understand the village coding. The building inspectors were so particular with Villa Medical and now they let this great monstrosity building go up. Where are your codes? Where are your building inspectors? I mean, I don’t blame anyone for not opening up a building in Villa Park. Thanks.

Jan Fiola, director of economic development for the Village of Villa Park, commented: “On behalf of myself, the economic development director; and Patrick Grill, the community development director, we are responding to the question about the new building on Villa Avenue. The new building is the Landings on Villa. It is a 16-unit apartment building for persons with disabilities. This building met the same building code requirements as the Villa Medical building. If the building meets the codes, the village cannot impose specific architectural requirements. We are very proud of Villa Park and believe there are great opportunities for business to locate within the village.”—JAC

I see the police are at it again in Villa Park. Doing nothing. Driving down on Ardmore a block away from the police department, people are passing people on a side street. Twelve police cars sitting there; nobody’s doing anything. Wow, this is going to be just like the referendum they’re going to have so we can do our streets in Villa Park. Yeah, they want to collect the money from us and do nothing for the next five to 10 years. Good job again, Villa Park.

Good morning. I’m a Lombard resident and just curious. There is some kind of construction going on, on 22nd Street between Highland Avenue and Finley Road, probably closer to Finley. I’m just curious. What is it? Someone said he or she thought—and that’s why I’m calling you—that it might be a nursing home. If anybody’s got any information, I’m nosy. I want to know. Thanks very much, bye.

According to Laurie Huff of Center Reach Communications, construction is under way at 300 W. 22nd St. for Lombard Place Assisted Living & Memory Care, a project of Spectrum Retirement Communities, which is a Denver-based company. The facility, which will include assisted living, transitional memory care and memory care, is slated to open next summer.—JAC

I’m reading the Lombardian under projects going on. I noticed it said the Terrace View Pond project is complete. I wish somebody would walk over there and take a look and take a picture and see that there is no water. It’s green slime and lily pads over the entire pond. I was walking my dog and many people just stopped and shook their head and said, I can’t believe it. I think something really needs to be done.

This is in response to the person who thinks that most of us who live near Madison Meadow should leave our house for a few days if we don’t like the Taste of Lombard. I can’t believe the arrogance. Maybe I should set up a sound system in front of your house and play pounding music until 11 p.m. and throw trash all over your yard and bottles and cups in your bushes, and invite a few hundred friends and get them drunk so they start yelling until all hours of the night. Then, if you complain, I’ll just tell you, you should just leave your house and go somewhere else if you don’t like it.

I’m really tired of reading all the complaints about the ale fest and the money it raised for Glenbard East. Should Glenbard East no longer be able to have the yearly Rams ball? They serve alcohol there. What about the golf tournaments? Can alcohol be purchased there? Basically, if you’re an adult, you’re allowed to attend any event you would like. If the school gets a benefit from this, there should be no problem.

Thanks to the Lombard Public Works Department for the great job they did on the Foxworth subdivision streets and the letters they sent out and thanks to the contractors for a job well done and to the village for adding our street work to the capital improvement expenses column. All is appreciated.

This is Lombard calling. I thought the Taste of Lombard was supposed to be a family event. First off, I have to pay $3 to get in and for a couple of kids I’ve got to pay $25 each for the wrist band; $5 to $6 for a sandwich or a snack. This is really outrageous. This will be my last time going to the Taste, Jaycees.

Hello, Lombard. We see that the health department campus on Finley Road is for sale. Wouldn’t that make a great park district facility or perhaps a library annex? Something that some of these village entities could get together. If nothing else, you could just buy it, tear it all down and address some of the flooding problems we have.

Went to the Lombard fireworks, which were awesome as usual. However, there was not one garbage can in the area by Fairfield and Harding where we sat. We were very disappointed. We carried our garbage home, but please, provide some garbage cans.

As a former resident of Villa Park, I was quite disappointed there was no ice cream social on July 3. I always look forward to coming back and seeing my former neighbors and friends. Please reinstate it.

We want to apologize to our neighbor who called the police recently because my daughter and her friend were burning leaves and sticks in our outdoor fireplace after pruning our bushes. We’re in our 80s and have been quite ill over the past year, so my family came to help us. First time living in our home for 56 years that we had the police come to give us a warning. We’re very embarrassed.

Hello, I am a Lombard resident for 12 years and I always enjoy going to the Taste of Lombard. This year was the worst year ever, in my opinion. The fireworks were bad, the music during the fireworks was not there, the vendors were not there, the band that played on July 5 was swearing onstage. What is going on with the Taste of Lombard? This is the worst year ever.

This is a Lombard resident calling. It’s the Fourth of July Weekend and not one American flag appears on Main Street in Lombard. It’s not only disheartening, it’s disgusting and it’s a slam to those who have served our country. There’s no explanation as to why there were no American flags posted on Main Street in Lombard for the Fourth of July weekend. The village should be ashamed of itself.

* * *

To all the people who are shooting fireworks before Fourth of July and after, they should move to the Eastern European countries where they will hear those noises all of the time, and let us who appreciate an organized, beautiful fireworks display once a year and our peace and quiet neighborhoods, enjoy it. Thank you.

Hello, in reference to the Taste of Lombard, we need to do something about the music. There’s no reason why we need to be exposed and listen to all the profanities and the foul-mouth singers on stage broadcasting to our children, the neighborhood and to this so-called family event. Perhaps the Jaycees need some adult supervision themselves before they pick these inappropriate bands.

Lombard calling from three blocks away from Madison Meadow park. The volume at the Taste of Lombard has worsened in spite of a notice we received from the Jaycees stating that the speakers would be pointed toward the park, rather than the neighborhoods. From three blocks away we heard the loud music and the screaming of the entertainers. The speakers don’t need to be turned up that loud. Five evenings and two full days of this is disturbing. Backyard fireworks have gotten out of hand because the offenders know the police aren’t going to enforce fireworks laws. Is it going to take a serious injury before this is curtailed? Thank you.

I’m curious why the Lombard police won’t do anything about the stores that sell synthetic marijuana. It is a fact that it is still happening. I’m a concerned parent. My son continually buys it and keeps it in his trunk. I need the police to look into this so my son can stop getting his hands on it. It’s illegal and they should not be selling it. I’m desperate. Thank you.
