This is Lombard calling. I’m disgusted that we’re going to re-open the issue of video gaming. Really? Gambling preys on the poorest of the poor and the weakest of the weak. Besides, don’t you remember when the village was sold an apparent bill of goods on the Westin center? That thing was going to be the revenue machine that Lombard always needed. Our coffers would be overflowing with gold. So why do we need video gambling? We’ve got the Westin Hotel and Convention Center. I used to think Lombard was a pretty good town. I can’t wait to get out of here.

This is to the person who doesn’t like the way St. Charles Road tenants are being occupied. They don’t like the types of tenants. I have been a real estate broker and property manager for many, many years and what they don’t realize is that buying online from some companies is running the retail people out of business. You see a number of stores going down the tubes. So, the kind of people who are looking for space on St. Charles Road are not your typical 20-year-ago retail tenants. I’ve had vacancies for two years. It doesn’t make any difference what I do with the price or what I show at the building.

This is Lombard calling. A huge thank you to two people who stepped up to bring my dog home so that the ambulance could take my husband to the hospital after both were bitten by another dog. Pete and Patti, your kindness is much appreciated. Bless you both.

It’s great to hear that Lombard is hosting a large-scale craft beer festival in downtown Lombard on June 14. I’ll be there; will you?

You know all the goose poop that’s in all of our parks, grass areas around? Well, it was brought in by the Illinois Department of Conservation in the Endangered Species Act—eggs brought in to save the Canada geese. Now, they’re bringing in prairie chickens. The total cost of the program is $455,000, when we have $6.7 billion in unpaid bills in Illinois. Who are these bright people who keep doing these stupid things and the people who put then in office?

Monday morning at 11:30, St. Charles was lit up like a Christmas tree again. What seems to be the problem? The village is talking that electric rates are going up, yet the lights are on during the day. Makes no sense to me.

Hi, Lombard. I’m calling in regard to the Lombard Ale Fest coming on June 14 and I’m wondering who it’s for and what it is. When I go online it tells me it’s going to support a bunch of non-profit organizations and then other people are telling me no, it’s for the Glenbard East Athletic Boosters for the turf. So, could someone please clarify this for me? I know there are other people asking this same question, so we want to know where our money’s going. Thank you.

Bob Difino, chair of the Glenbard East Athletic Boosters Events Committee, explained that the boosters signed a three-year contract with Lou Dog Events for their management and counseling. The Boosters have done all the planning and coordination of the Ale Fest, according to a Boosters press release, and they are providing all of the 100 adult volunteers. Difino explained that Lou Dog Events will get 30 percent of the proceeds from the fest, and this year, the Boosters will get 70 percent, all of which is earmarked toward the bonds for the turf field at East. During the second year, Lou Dog Events will get 25 percent of the proceeds, the Boosters will get 70 percent and whichever non-profit organization provides volunteers will get the remaining 5 percent. Likewise, during the third year, Lou Dog Events will get 20 percent, the Boosters will get 70 percent and whichever non-profit organization provides the volunteers will get 10 percent of the proceeds. Difino noted that out of all the tickets sold so far, some 60 percent are from individuals who live out of town.—JAC

This is Lombard calling. I want to thank the Lombard Town Centre for the most spectacular event we just had with the Blackhawks game on South Park. It was standing room only and it was the most spectacular event. Congratulations on the new screen to show the games. Not just the Blackhawks; we can see some Bears game. It was the greatest investment and not everybody calls for thank you. I’m calling to say thank you.

This is directed to the two boys who thought it was so funny to be driving on Wilson and Fairfield and thought it would so hilarious to be driving their vehicle with no lights on at 10 o’clock at night and not stopping for any stop signs. What were you guys thinking? This might be funny to you, but this is how people get killed. If this is the way you drive, you should not have a driver’s license. You need to grow up and drive like an adult, not the children that you obviously are. Bye.

Good evening. I just had dinner with some friends at the new restaurant in Villa Park, Biesiada, the American-Polish restaurant. The service was good and friendly. Want to have some good down-to-earth meals? Go to Biesiada. It’s close to home, right down on St. Charles Road. Why not give it a try? Good night.

The old saying “The fruit doesn’t fall far from the tree,” as a saying, it applies to the controversy about Lilac Princesses and their parents. Most of the high achievers who are nominated for the position have parents who are also achievers. They donate time, effort and money for the good of Lombard. They put action where others talk about it. Too bad there is so much information out there today and a lot of people without common sense or knowledge to sort it out. The Lilac Princesses are not chosen by name but for their own accomplishments. Let’s not start playing games with the holy grail, so to speak, of Lombard. Let’s keep our traditions alive.

Hats off to the coordinators of the Lombard Ale Fest. I love craft beers, but even more, I am excited about all the mini food trucks coming to Lombard. Yum.

I got my ComEd bill and its inserts about smart meters in Lombard. There will be no charge for installation of the meter but there will be a monthly charge of $3 for the new meter. Sounds like a scam.

Hi, I’m calling from Lombard. I’m sure a lot of people are getting these phone calls that they want to speak to the person in charge of the electric bill and they want to change you from something else or whatever they want, but I’ve been trying and trying to get them to stop calling me and they just continue to call me. Does someone know what this is all about? Is it a scam, is something wrong here? They will not stop calling my house and I want to know who else is having the problem. Thank you.

Hi. I am just calling to clarify. I am the one who called about my water bill being $159.42 twice. Just to let people know, it was not a past due bill. I paid in full $159.42. The next billing cycle, I also paid $159.42. So, just to let people know it was not a past due amount. It was the second bill. I wish more people would step up and speak out about their water bill because there’s something going on.

It’s so good to see that Flesk Brewing, a Lombard brewer, is going to be one of the 40 brewers at Lombard Ale Fest. We really need to support our local businesses.

Regarding the VA scandal in Phoenix, Ariz., where was Sen. McCain? Where was the HHS secretary? Where were the military joint chiefs of staff? Where was the secretary of defense? Where was the attorney general? Where was the FBI? And of course, where was President Obama? And on and on and on.

Hi. I’m from Lombard. Everyone who doesn’t believe in global warming, here’s a good fact. As a travel agent I sent my good clients to Churchill, located on the Hudson Bay in Manitoba, Canada, about four or five years ago and the vendor, who is located in Manitoba, Canada, told me the polar bears are migrating later through Churchill and onto the ice on Hudson Bay because of global warming. The sighting for polar bears has been moved from late October to late November in the last 10 years because of global warming. Hence, the extreme weather throughout the world also concerns global warming. So just accept what’s been going on for many years concerning global warming for once, please.

Hello, Lombard. I’m just calling to say way to be with this Ale Fest. I’ve been to others in other communities and I’m really excited to see that Lombard is bringing one here. Craft beers, live music, food trucks. I’m really excited. Way to be. I like that you’re bringing so many things to the downtown. Thank you. Keep it up.

The time to act is now to stop the use of fire pits.We all deserve to have healthy air and to enjoy our backyards without breathing in the pollution from an outdoor fire.

Just want to thank all the gas companies for jacking up the price of gas 20-40 cents a gallon on Memorial Day weekend.

Hello. There they are, all those people standing in the road soliciting for whatever good cause. Can we please put a stop to it? Really? People standing in the road collecting money in this day and age? It’s too dangerous.
