Since when in America do employees decide how much money they will be paid? Since when do students decide who runs the schools or universities? Since when do people here illegally decide what they will get in our country? I guess we can use the old cliché, the inmates have taken over the asylum. If you want more, do what we did. Go to school, work two jobs, have only as many children as you can afford, etc.

Hi, this is Lombard here. Is Obama going to condemn what's happening in Paris or is it just going to be another workplace problem? Thank you.

Hi. To the person who called about the skeet shooting in Glen Ellyn, I live in Lombard and I hear it, too. The only difference is I wish I could join them. I have to drive more than 50 miles to practice my favorite shooting sport. My problem is, please don't confuse a legal, fun shooting activity with the awful illegal scourge of gun violence that is happening now in America. Thank you. Goodbye.

Hi, this is Lombard calling. I just have to say Art’s Master Mechanics is amazing; really helped me out in the time of need and for no charge. I really like Art’s Master Mechanics.

York Township calling. For those concerned about the noise from weapons fire at a nearby skeet range, I can only say the same thing we told people living near U.S. Air Force bases who complained about the noise from high-performance fighter aircraft;  “That is the new sound of freedom.” I suppose you will just have to deal with the gunfire; someone is exercising their Second Amendment “rights.”

Someone said when the Syrians get here, sort out the young men and send them back to their country to fight. Why should we send our young men over there to fight their battle? When Pearl Harbor was attacked, our men and boys fought for our country. We didn’t run to another country and expect them to do our fighting. What kind of thinking of this is that Americans can take care of the whole world? People have to help themselves. We’re overcrowded, we’re broke. Who pays for all these people for housing, medical, food, etc.?

Today I received in the mail a large package titled “American Community Survey” that purports to be from the federal government and says I must fill it out, otherwise I will face stiff penalties. Does anyone know if this is legitimate, if they can force me to fill it out and what the penalties are if this is in fact true?

According to the United States Census Bureau, “The American Community Survey (ACS) is an ongoing survey that provides vital information on a yearly basis about our nation and its people. Information from the survey generates data that help determine how more than $400 billion in federal and state funds are distributed each year.” The bureau also notes, “The ACS is a legitimate, mandatory survey sent to a small percentage of our population on a rotating basis. You are legally obligated to answer all the questions, as accurately as you can...Response to the survey is mandatory because the American Community Survey is part of the decennial census, replacing the ‘long form’ that previously was sent to a percentage of households once every 10 years.” Visit https://www.census.gov/programs-surveys/acs/about.html for more information.—JAC

Hi, I’m calling because I noticed that the light at Summit and Roosevelt still has a sign that says it’s red light camera enforced but the camera doesn’t seem to work. I’m wondering if it’s not necessary to have that camera working if all the people who got charged $200 for rolling through the red light could maybe be refunded. Also, the road on High Ridge between Ardmore and Meyers is not safe to be on. It needs to be repaired. I don’t know who’s responsible for that road but it is in really, really bad shape and it is dangerous and it’s also a problem for cars that could be causing issues for cars that might become damaged.

Hi, everyone. I would just like to say Happy Thanksgiving. I am thankful for my friends, family, my health and my job, and most of all I’m thankful for this beautiful town I’ve called home for over the past 25 years. Happy Thanksgiving.

This is Lombard calling. I just want to give a shout out to Scott Reeder for his “Always something to be thankful for” column in the Wednesday, Nov. 18, Lombardian. Just kind of a nice reminder for all of us of what is truly important this holiday season. Thank so much, Scott.

Yes, this is to the Village of Villa Park. You ought to be ashamed of yourselves. You pass the TIF district on North Avenue, between Ardmore and Route 83, in order to spruce up the area. People are investing money and you guys make it a truck parking area in what used to be a radiator repair shop. All of a sudden there are 40, 50 semis parked there. That doesn’t belong on North Avenue. North Avenue’s got its own problems. You’re supposed to be part of the solution, not part of the problem. I know money talks, but...solution.

SPEAK OUT callers, let’s not rehash the skeet debate any further. There’s nothing we can do about it and also, the skeets-as-animals jokes are so last year. Please, no more of those. Not funny.

Hi. To the caller who’s whining about skeet shooting and his or her dog, why don’t you train that dog to maybe not react to loud noises? I’ve got dogs all around me on my block that bark constantly. It’s very, very annoying. The gunshots that I hear from the Glen Ellyn skeet shooting range don’t even compare to that. So, maybe, take care of your dog, train it properly and quit moaning about gunshots. Thanks. Bye.

Hi. To the person who’s whining about the Glen Ellyn skeet shooting, I also live in Lombard and I have neighbors who have dogs, that when they let them out, bark constantly, and talk about annoying, that’s about the ultimate. I hear the guns, that doesn’t bother me. I live to shoot guns and I would love to be able to be a part of that club but I can’t afford it. I have to drive about 50 miles outside of this area to be able to shoot skeet.

Good evening. This is the evening of our first snowfall in Lombard. We can put men on the moon; is there someone who knows how to make street signs, highway signs, directional signs to be clear of sticky snow? It is really frustrating when you are in unfamiliar territory and you cannot read the signs. Thank you. Have a good evening.

Hello, this is from Lombard. I have lived in this town almost 50 years and I can’t believe after all this time, no matter how much notice we get of a snow storm, Lombard cannot figure out how to clear the streets. This is ridiculous, all the taxes we pay in this town, and you can’t even pull out of your driveway because the streets, including the main ones, haven’t seen a snow plow at all. Thank you.
