Hi, Lombard calling. I’m wondering if anyone knows what's the deal with the signs popping up all over the place, “We love our garbage man, Flood Brothers.” I was under the impression that we had to have Waste Management in town, that they were given a monopoly contract on all the residential and commercial in Lombard, and that you couldn't use anybody else. Am I wrong? Is Flood Brothers allowed to come in, does anybody know? Thank you.

Your inquiry was sent to the Village of Lombard which responded: “The village would need to know the exact location of the signs in question to provide an accurate response. In general, Chapter 92 of the Lombard Village Code provides for the regulations relative to the disposal of refuse, recyclables and yard waste in Lombard. The village’s hauler for all residential, commercial and industrial properties in Lombard is Waste Management. At this time the village has not issued a license to any other hauler for the collection of material within the corporate limits. Any signs posted within the public right of way will be removed by village staff. If signage is located on private property, the Community Development Department would consider the legality of the signage and address the matter.”—blm

I’m glad to see more and more people are realizing that our village officials and trustees, and presidents, one of whom is now running for Congress, have no sense. If you’re going to do a referendum for streets, sewers are considered part of the street. It’s nice to know they have no common sense but yet we can spend, what is it, $200,000 on a memorial for the vets? And I’m a vet. They should have taken that $200,000 on a memorial for us—which we do thank you for— and put it into the streets. No more referendums for streets; no more referendums for squad cars; street sweepers that we don’t see that are not used. Fire everyone. This village has been going downhill for the past 10 years. It apparently started with Cullerton and it’s going to end with Bullwinkel.

Villa Park Board has announced spending $200,000 to renovate Cortesi Park. This very, very small park will be used no more post update than it is now. Why not have purchased the old post office and then re-do one large parcel?

Jan Fiola, Villa Park's director of economic development addressed your comment: “The village is prepared to purchase the post office; however, the post office will not accept any additional offers. They have been working with the potential purchaser for over two years and they are awaiting the NFR letter (No Further Remediation) regarding the environmental remediation from the state in effort to schedule the closing.”—JAC

Five Supreme Court judges changed God’s law by redefining marriage. God established at the beginning of creation marriage as a man and a woman. These justices some day will stand before the God they challenged. Woe unto them.

Hi, this is for Villa Park’s Bullwinkel. I’d like to find out what makes her get in as a congressman when she apparently can’t do anything for Villa Park. So, Bullwinkel, tell me something. What did you do for Villa Park and now you think you’re going to do for the country? The same thing—nothing.

Villa Park Village President Deborah Bullwinkel, who recently announced she will run for the Democratic nomination in the race to represent the 8th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives, responded: “I’d be more than happy to talk to whomever this is, and I invite them to call me at my office, 630-834-5032, or send me an e-mail at presidentbullwinkel@invillapark.com so we can arrange a time to meet for coffee. Thank you!”—JAC

Are you as tired as I am of hearing that gay marriage is the law of the land? Not so. It is the perceived law of the land, but it’s not constitutional. There was no law passed by Congress and signed by the president that changed the definition of marriage. Five justices made law unconstitutionally by redefining marriage, that is the duty of Congress. Again, there is no law on the books for gay marriage. This will only be fixed by the leadership in the House and the Senate who have backbone. God save us from the people who now make up our government.

This call is for the Lombardians who are addicted to your cell phones. I wish you could see yourself the way we see you. How foolish you look crossing a busy street with your head down looking at your phone. How silly you are when you bike down the street steering with one hand, looking at your phone. Finally, how pathetic you appear when walking through busy mall parking lots with children by the hand. You are looking down; not at them but at your phone. It’s up to the rest of us to keep you safe from yourselves. Do me a favor. Keep your head up. Remember what you learned in first grade—be a good citizen, respect others and pay attention to what you’re doing. We’ll all be safer that way. Thank you.

Hi. It was amazing to see the large mass of students participating in the Glenbard East evacuation drill. I watched as they walked west on Wilson to Sunset Knoll and back. It was fast and orderly. Great job to all the police, students and teachers.

Here’s a question for the person who called in with the question about forest fires and volcanoes and the absurd statement he or she put at the end: “Are you going to try to punish God?” Volcanoes and forest fires are natural disasters. Some forest fires are started by careless people. Volcanoes are natural disasters. No one can control that except God. In response to your question, which was totally ridiculous, I don’t think that anyone, even our president, would even consider trying to punish God, but you surely need to do a little soul-searching on your own to make such a stupid statement.

These people who comment that your attire in church doesn’t matter are emblematic of our declining society. How dare they say that I should be thankful just because they are there. Are they really that arrogant? I should be grateful because you graced us with your attendance? How you dress is an indicator of how seriously you take your circumstances. If you were going to go to court and your lawyer showed up in a tank top, shorts and flip flops, would you be thankful just because he’s there? We live in an era of excuse makers. I worked as a mechanic for many years and when I was on call on a Sunday, I went to church in nice clothes, then after Mass, went into the back of my truck, closed the door and changed into my mechanic’s clothes.

So once again for the third time this year, I work shift work. There was a safety alert from the National Weather Service. How they got my cell phone number is all wrong. It shouldn’t happen. I got two emergency weather alerts that flash flooding is going to be in my area or probable tonight. I just want to say thank you to the National Weather Service for waking me out of my sleep twice in the last hour, even though I’m going to be going to work soon, to alert me of something that we know is going to happen because it’s been on the news all day. So thank you for interrupting my sleep. I will be going to work very tired.

Good afternoon. I was at our beautiful Helen Plum Library for a technology class this morning, Saturday, and oh my goodness, little changes but I was so excited to see the Readers Service desk in a better area. It’s like a more welcoming area. And I noticed the wonderful people who help us have their own cards. How nice to recognize those great people who do such a wonderful job for us. Thanks, Helen Plum Library and keep up the good work. I’m so anxious to see what other great changes are going to be happening. Thank you, bye bye.

Hi, I’m just wondering, did anyone else hear someone play taps in or near Lombard Common park this past Sunday, which was Sunday, Sept. 20, at 1:30 a.m. Someone was playing the trumpet out there and it sounded like it was right outside my house, which gave us the willies a little bit because that song was played at my dad’s funeral. And, I didn’t just hear it. My son also heard it. So, I was just wondering if anybody else heard it. Thank you.

Hello. Lombard calling. I would like to compliment the former Joe Shayne property for landscaping the location on Main and Madison. It truly is eye-appealing and a super job done. Thanks much.
