Hi, this is Lombard calling. The weather outside is just beautiful for December, so what is the excuse that we’re not getting our mail again? I live in the Madison Meadow area and our mail comes late. OK, at Christmastime, we got one piece of mail. My sister mailed me something from Elk Grove Village a week ago. Have I received it? No. I think we need to do something with our post office. Thank you.

Villa Park calling. I am an almost 80-year-old senior who had her driveway snow blown early last Tuesday morning by our neighbors, the Dziak boys. Later, the village snowplows when plowing the street packed the snow at the end of the driveway. I went to clear it out when along comes a village snowplow and the gentleman behind the wheel backs up and graciously plowed the heavily packed snow which weighs a ton off the end of my drive. God bless him. It took only a few seconds.

President Obama has done wonderful work and here are the facts from 2009 compared to now. The unemployment rate was 8.3 percent, now is 5.0 percent; GDP growth was -2.8 percent, now is 2.9 percent; Dow was 7,365, now it’s 17,847; annual deficit was -$1,400 billion, now it’s -$439 billion; housing prices were -7.1 percent, now they are up 4.1 percent; uninsured were 16 percent, now it’s just 9 percent; combat troops deployed were 186,300 now it’s 9,937; and consumer confidence rose from 25.3 to 91.3. That is great work.

I have the deepest sympathy for people who cannot pay their bills, don’t have enough money for medication or food, who don’t have a job, and that is the point I wish to make. Everybody is begging and wanting the government to tax everybody to give a few the benefits they want. But, the Bible, the rule of life, for everybody, clearly states, if you don’t want to work, you shouldn’t expect to eat. Carve that into your brain and think about that next time you’re looking for something for nothing. Happy New Year to everybody.

Hi, Lombard. Today is Tuesday, the day after our big sleet storm and it’s about 11 a.m. and I’m driving down St. Charles Road and there are barely two lanes for the traffic to get by. Where are all the plows? Thank you.

This is Lombard calling. It is 7 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 28. I just got pushed into a parking lot making a left-hand turn north on Main Street because no one has plowed the streets.

Hey Villa Park, who authorized the Union Pacific to use Villa Park as a freight yard, to include blocking all three road crossings with a parked train for extended periods of time? This does not happen in other communities. Why us?

Lombard calling. I wonder when property maintenance is going to start ticketing people who have left their leaves, branches and whatever out all these months and they’re not going to get picked up. I’m sick and tired of looking at it. I try and keep my property nice, and if I don’t cut my lawn, I’m sure I’d get a ticket. But they can put all this garbage on the curb? Come on, do your job, you guys.

Hello, I would like to thank my neighbors. My husband was in the hospital and I was very sick with my back, and they really helped me. They shoveled my snow, they took in my garbage cans and they did everything possible they could do for me. I live on Yale Street and I would like to say thank you to my wonderful neighbors in Villa Park for taking care of us when we were in need. Thank you. This is Eleanor. Thank you. Goodbye.

Hi, this is Lombard calling. I am not calling about the snow plowing, I am not calling about the skeet at Glen Oaks Country Club, I am not calling about the Metra station or the bridge over the Great Western Trail. I am not calling about the Taste of Lombard, the music volume there or the fireworks. I am not calling about the sirens on or off the Lilac Parade or the princess scholarships. I’m not calling about how long to keep the holiday lights up at your house, nor am I calling about the Democrats, Republicans or any other political party. I am calling about the law that this village has that says you cannot water on odd or even days, and since I live on the even side of the street, my lawn will not get watered due to Dec. 31 and Jan. 1. I therefore think this law should be eliminated because by Jan. 2, my lawn will be ruined. Thank you, Lombard. Have a happy new year.

Well, he has been in office almost a year. Can we now consider Rauner to be the worst governor the state’s history? We have been without a budget for a half-year. I know that there are some who want to blame Madigan on this, but the Constitution tells us that the governor has the right to line out any expenditure until the budget is balanced and then sign it into law.  He has refused to do this, but then he has always had problems with taking responsibility. Man up, Governor, and do your job.
