To speak out, send your message to Speak Out!

This goes out to Villa Park Public Works. Summit and Harrison. How long has that messed up, 8 by 8 pot hole going to sit like that, after a bunch of people’s cars are destroyed, their front ends are messed up? We pay taxes. Let’s fix the stuff.

Your question was forwarded to Village of Villa Park officials, who responded:

“Village staff temporarily patched the pot hole mentioned for the time being. A water main replacement is scheduled to begin the week of June 20 (weather permitting) at that location, and once that is completed the pot hole will be patched.”—JAC

Hi, calling from Lombard. How about at the old Mr. Z’s supermarket site we get a nice hardware store, something like True Value or an Ace? I think it would be very handy and convenient to have something in the middle of town so we don’t have to go to Menards or the Home Depot.

Officials from the Village of Lombard responded: “The village adopted an Economic Incentive Policy to help businesses open their doors in Lombard. The policy facilitates an “explore all options” approach and can be used to address extraordinary costs associated with new developments without negatively impacting existing taxpayers. However it is still incumbent upon a willing tenant and a willing owner to reach agreement on the property sale. A common misconception is that the village dictates which specific businesses can occupy a specific location. The village’s role is purely as a facilitator and informational resource. For more information on how retail stores come to be in Lombard, please view our new online series titled “From Ground Breaking to Grand Opening: Retail in Lombard” available at www.villageoflombard.org/retail.—JAC

Hi, This is Lombard calling about throwing out slices and chunks of bread in my neighborhood. These birds, squirrels, everything’s coming to eat them, and they leave these big chunks of bread and slices in other people’s backyards. We’ve asked these people—there are two houses that do it—to not do it. They continually do it. I don’t know if there’s a code enforcement issue that can be pressed with this, but it certainly is not good for the animals plus it brings the raccoons and the opossums all around our neighborhoods. The bread’s gone from their front yard but it’s in out backyards getting moldy and being picked up by all kinds of different critters and dropped all over the place. Please can you remind people it’s not healthy for humans and animals to be doing that. Thank you very much.

In response to questions pertaining to the Village of Lombard’s Code of Ordinances or Code Violations, please call the village’s Code Enforcement phone line at 630-620-5757, and someone will return your call. You may also view the village’s Code of Ordinances at villageoflombard.org/ordinances or visit villageoflombard.org/reportaconcern to submit your concern at any time of day.—JAC

Why doesn’t our local post office building have a handicapped accessible door at their facility? I have recently become dependent on using a walker or a cane to get around. The entrance door is very difficult to open. It can be a challenge. Something should be done to improve the situation. It needs to be made handicapped accessible. I’m not the only person who’s using a walker to get into the facility. Thank you, goodbye.

This is confirmation about Donald Trump. He is not a fence rider. People who ride a fence, you don’t know which side they’re going to fall on to make you happy. You know where he stands. You know what he supports. You know what he doesn’t support. Whether you like it or not, you know where the man stands. He isn’t afraid to speak his mind. I hate when these people come up and want to make everybody happy. There’s no way in the world you can make everybody happy. So, put a president in office who’s not afraid to tell people the truth, whether you like it or not. He isn’t going to be dictated to by money, politicians or anybody else. Donald Trump will make a wonderful president. Give the man a chance. We’ve tried everybody else and it failed. The present president is a big mistake. Bye.

Once again, as in the last 37 years, a couple of my neighbors will go out of state to buy fireworks. As soon as it gets dark, as all cowards do, they will make a lot of noise and irritate the rest of the neighborhood. The police will come, as in the past 37 years, and ask them not to shoot off the fireworks. And, as in the past, as soon as the police cars are out of sight, the people will shoot off the fireworks and begin again. This is the definition of insanity. Why won’t the police enforce the Illinois pyrotechnic laws? The police are paid to enforce the laws of the land but refuse to do their job. Setting off fireworks under the Pyrotechnic Use Act (425 ILCS 35) and 225ILCS 227, calls for the violator to be charged with a Class A misdemeanor and fined up to $5,000. To the Lombard police, enforce the law.

Village of Lombard officials responded: “The Village of Lombard recognizes that the discharge of fireworks including firecrackers, bottle rockets, Roman candles or large and loud explosives [is] a violation of state law and village ordinances. Calls made to the Lombard Police Department are taken very seriously. Each call is followed up by police officers, and violators are fined and reprimanded accordingly. We encourage any violations to be reported to the police department as our primary concern is our residents’ safety and well-being. The village maintains no special treatment for any law violators and we encourage residents to call 911 to report violators and dangerous situations.”—JAC

I am no fan of Madigan, but after a year and a half Rauner has yet to propose a balanced budget that outlines any real proposals for revenue generation or cuts as he is constitutionally required to do. It is a simple question: Governor, what would you cut from your last proposed budget to get it into balance?

The man who murdered 49 innocent people in Orlando was a registered Democrat. According to one of his friends, he supported Hillary Clinton for president. Is that important? Not really, but it is interesting we aren't hearing much about it in the media. If the killer had been a Donald Trump supporter, you wouldn't stop hearing about it. The leftist media would constantly bring it up in an attempt to disparage Trump and his supporters, and blame them for the murders. Also, if the killer had been a white NRA member and/or a Christian, the leftist media would be relentlessly criticizing every member of each of those groups.

Lombard calling. I'm like most everyone else. I don't like getting my tax bill every year and I don't like when the taxes go up. That being said, there are times when a tax rate increase is necessary and the tax increase to build a new Helen Plum library is certainly necessary. The library board has done an amazing job over the years keeping the building repairs going but after more than 30 years it's time to build a library designed for the 21st century. A new building will increase needed space for children, teenagers and adults as well as making modern technologies available to many more Lombardians than currently use the library facilities. It's time for a new library building for Lombard.

My message is for Lombard, Villa Park, surrounding areas. The new rule when you go into the banks, is you cannot have a hat on, you cannot have a hoodie on. But, if you are a Muslim you don't have to take your headdress off. Don't you think that's being a little bit hypocritical, especially to the people here in America who are born and raised here? Let's start looking at being fair to the people who are born and raised in our country. Thank you.

Lombard calling. Another attempt to reach out to homeowners in the area of Madison Meadow park on the night of July 4. Please curb your fireworks in your yards and be considerate of children, the elderly, pets, etc. The fireworks in this area after the fireworks after the fireworks display in Madison Meadow park has become excessive, way overdone. Someone is bound to get hurt and/or property destroyed. Please stop. thank you.
