Several years ago Lombard trustees voted no to allowing chickens to be held in their yard. I was wondering if it is possible to get that back on an agenda. Several area towns have successfully allowed residents to have chickens in their yards without any issues, including Chicago. Basically they are very quiet and easy to take care of, and I was wondering how you could go about getting this back on the agenda. I e-mailed my trustee with no success, being that this issue has already been addressed, but things change over the years and I was wondering if this is possible. Thank you.

Your inquiry was forwarded to Village of Lombard officials, who stated the following: “In response, Section 94.04(B) of the Village Code specifically excludes the keeping of poultry within the village, as well as other selected farm animals. Past requests to review this issue earlier this decade, the village board, through its Environmental Concerns Committee, reviewed the issue of whether the existing Lombard Village Code should be amended. Through extensive research and discussion, the village board voted to keep the existing prohibitions in place. A subsequent review of many surrounding municipalities in 2016 found that while some communities allow for the keeping of chickens in limited cases, other municipalities decided not to drop the prohibitions. For any further questions, please feel free to contact the Community Development Department at 630-620-5749.”—JAC

Hi, this is Villa Park/Lombard calling. I’d like to know who is in charge of cleaning the sewers on the street when the leaves pile up and the street floods. I can't believe the people who own houses around here have to clean the sewers, the leaves. I know a lot of them do. I just got through cleaning mine because it was flooded all over. Thank you, bye.

Since you did not specify in which community you live, your inquiry was forwarded to both villages. From Villa Park, the response is: “In Villa Park, the Streets Division within the Public Works Department is responsible for street sweeping along with many other road maintenance projects along the village’s 70 miles of roadway. While village staff do their best to keep roadway inlets/grates clear prior to expected rains, any assistance by residents who are able to clear the roadway inlets/grates in front of their homes is greatly appreciated given the not-always-predictable nature of the weather.”

The Village of Lombard’s response is as follows: “As part of the Village of Lombard’s 2016 Fiscal Year Budget preparations, the Department of Public Works evaluated levels of service provided to the community. One of the areas addressed as part of the evaluation was the frequency of street sweeping. The Department of Public Works evaluated the level of service for street sweeping in relation to comparable communities and determined that the frequency and therefore costs were far beyond the comparable communities. The village currently sweeps streets an average of nine times per year. The previous level of service was an average of 11 cycles per year. In between the sweeping cycles, the village asks residents to assist in keeping storm drains clear of debris. “

In addition to the sweeping program, the village offers a free leaf collection program for residents. The annual free leaf pick-up for Lombard residents will run Oct. 24 to Dec. 2. During this time, an unlimited number of paper bags containing only leaves may be placed curbside on the normal waste collection day without stickers. Please feel free to contact the village’s Public Works Department directly with any questions at 630-620-5718.”—JAC

I'd like to thank Tom Cullerton for the free cup of coffee at the Villa Park train station on voting day, but I would like to remind him that George Bush gave me a $300 tax rebate in 2001.

Hey, Lombard. Huge congratulations to Glenbard East Theatre’s rendition of "Cats." They absolutely knocked it out of the park. Cheers.

I agree with the people who think you should leave your name when you call. My message is, Lincoln saved the nation. Maddon saved the Cubs Nation.

This is Villa Park calling. I would just tell the politicians to propose a new tax which would be on the campaign literature, of which I've probably thrown out 30 pounds and never read it. Maybe they can have an environmental tax because I have to keep throwing it in the recycle bucket. They could tax them for each piece of literature they send out and that would bring a lot of revenue in because it's all hate mail between each other. Why not tax them for it? Thank you, goodbye.

Hi, Villa Park calling. I just wanted to let the cast of Glenbard East’s “Cats” production know that they did such a fantastic job. It was really a spectacular musical they put on. They could actually take that to the Paramount in Aurora, it was that good. Thank you, Glenbard East, you did a great job. Bye bye.

Did you know the Lombard/Villa Park food bank is now open on the third Saturday of each month? Finally a Saturday.  It's at the First Methodist Church.

Lombard calling. Went to see the play "Cats" at Glenbard East. Fabulous job, professional job, the set, the scenery, lighting, acoustics, music, that orchestra was fabulous. Each actor was just wonderful; the dancing, the singing. Beautiful. Better than going into Chicago to see any play 40 times the cost—parking, gas, wear and tear on the car, tickets. Beautiful job, Glenbard East. Way to go. The twins were wonderful; the Skimbleshanks cat and Presto the magician. Beautiful.

Hi, I just drove by Sacred Heart School on Maple and there was a little girl with a stop sign directing traffic, crossing the kids. That's a bad thing waiting to happen.

Your comment was forwarded to Sacred Heart School. The following is a response from Assistant Principal Maureen A. O'Neill Nielsen: “Sacred Heart has been providing its own crossing patrols for more than 30 years…We pride ourselves in educating the whole child: mind, body and spirit. Our older students have the opportunity to be trained and serve as crossing guards. This is one of many ways our students live the gospel values and provide service to each other and the larger community.”—JAC

Hello, this is Yorktown Green calling. It's after 7 p.m. and we still have construction going, and I can't wait for the 7 o'clock wake-up call when they start mowing our lawn and doing other stuff very early. Aren't there any rules about how late or how early we can work? Can we get a break? Thank you.

Hello, America. I hope they fumigate the White House to get the corruption out of there before Trump moves in there. I appreciate America today. Goodnight.

Monday night just after 6 p.m. going down North Avenue to Addison Road and holy cow, as I understand it, it's still illegal to be posting signs on public property. These signs of Cullerton and Conroy were between the sidewalk and North Avenue on public property. They were all over the place. Turn north on Addison and they had them stuck on the grassy knoll in the middle of the street. I was told when I went and voted they've got 24 hours to get them out of there. What they ought to do is fine the person whose sign it is.

God bless America. Beautiful Lombard calling. Congratulations Mr. Trump. It certainly wasn't my first choice, but versus Hillary, are you kidding me? There's Anthony Weiner, whose wife was in the Obama administration; now the Hollywood libs all want to leave to Canada. Great examples for our kids. Burning flags and assaulting police officers. I'd be real proud of my party. When are you people going to wake up who keep voting Democrat? It's not the party it was of John Kennedy. God bless America. Pray for strength for our leaders. Unbelievable.

So thousands of young people don't consider Trump their president; their right is to protest. But, I will start a gofundme page to buy each one of them a ticket out of this country to find a country that's better than ours. Thank you.

Lombard calling. I understand the Helen Plum referendum has passed. This is very upsetting because I don't believe they gave the correct information in the tax calculator. My taxes will be increasing three times as much as the calculator says, and there's no way my house is worth $300,000. All in all I find this very disappointing. Thank you.

Your comment was forward to library spokesperson Sue Wilsey, who stated, “The calculator does not determine the worth of someone's house, just what the increase would be based on their property tax cost.” The tax increase calculator can be found at http://www.helenplum.org/estimated-2016-tax-increase.—JAC

OK, it’s three days after the election. Let's get the signs down—especially the illegally placed signs on public roads, like on Route 83.

Hi everybody. Just a reminder to those protesting Trump's win.  Understand, we were just as disgusted with Obama being voted into office, much less his reelection. I guess there’s some solace in knowing that there are plenty of people arguing he should go down as one of the country’s worst presidents, Obamacare will die on its own unless somebody pulls the plug first and that the Noble Committee has even said that Obama’s Peace Prize was a mistake. We just didn’t make fools out of ourselves by carrying stupid signs around like anybody really cared and crying as Obama won. Why do you liberals do that stuff? Just as Obama was, and still is, our president, Trump will be yours.  You’ll probably end up eating crow. Google “crow recipes.”

I’m getting quite a few laughs watching a bunch of celebrities throw tantrums because their preferred candidate didn’t win the presidential election. If their candidate had won, they'd be telling the world to accept the result. But their person didn’t win, so they’re acting like spoiled babies. These so-called entertainers have never been so entertaining.

Villa Park calling. Can we report neighbors who continually rake/blow leaves into our streets, which then clog our sewers?  Some have lawn services who do this and they don't care either. Some have been doing this for years. Does the village actually have to see them doing this or just the results?

Your inquiry was submitted to the Village of Villa Park. The response is as follows: “All leaves must be properly contained in a Kraft paper bag or refuse can clearly marked, “yard waste only” when placed out for collection. Residents can read more about yard waste procedures at www.invillapark.com/159/Yard-Land-Waste. Leaves should not be piled on the curb or pushed into the street because this blocks inlets and prevents water from properly draining during rains. Residents can report lawn service companies or individuals who purposely blow/rake leaves into the street by calling the Community Development Department at 630-433-4300.”—JAC

With regard to the protestors who are upset that Trump won over Clinton, my only comment is that this is the group of people who grew up never experiencing a loss. They’re the generation that thinks that everybody wins, everybody gets a trophy. Now, they’re throwing tantrums because they didn't pick a winning candidate. I didn’t even vote for Trump. Grow up, people. Suck it up. There’s always a winner, there's always a loser. Deal with it.
