Lombard. A suggestion. To anyone driving south at Meyers on Butterfield, it is obvious that a double left-turn lane is needed to turn east onto Butterfield Road. Drivers must often wait two to three light cycles to make that turn while many fewer drivers are continuing on Meyers. I have seen back-ups all the way to 22nd Street many times. I have contacted our trustee twice on this issue and would like help in pushing this minor but very necessary change along. Thank you.

Your comment was forwarded to Village of Lombard officials, who responded: “This specific intersection is a complicated area as Westmore-Meyers Road is under the jurisdiction of DuPage County Division of Transportation (630-407-6900) and Butterfield Road is under the jurisdiction of the Illinois Department of Transportation (217-782-7820). Additionally, the only portion of the intersection that is under Lombard’s jurisdiction is the northeast corner, while the actual intersection and the full width of Butterfield Road is within the Village of Oak Brook. Finally, any changes to the intersection will have to be requested to both IDOT and DuDOT and there is no certainty that they would be approved. At this time, there is nothing in the five-year plans for either IDOT or DuDOT that indicate that work is scheduled to amend the intersection.  The Village of Lombard will be requesting both agencies to review the intersection, including the current signal timing to see if any adjustments are necessary.  However, please keep in mind that Butterfield Road (Route 56) is a Strategic Route Arterial, according to IDOT. As such, the east-west traffic on Butterfield is given a priority status with regard to signal timing and traffic flow.”—JAC

This call is in regard to the person who called in regard to the July 6 comments about why Americans are so afraid, which they've never been before. My response to that is my fear is a person like you who doesn't seem to think there's anything wrong with this president we have, who thinks nothing of taking medical coverage away from people who need it, who thinks nothing of belittling our FBI, our CIA, to foreign countries, who apparently lies every time he opens his mouth. This man has the code to set off nuclear bombs. I have never in my life, in my 60 years, been as afraid as I am now. He has put everybody in office against everything; the EPA, climate change, everything, and you back this man?

I'm 80 years old and President Trump sounds like the least-educated president who has ever served in my lifetime. He is an embarrassment to our nation. If he has a college degree, I'm sure his rich father bought it for him and this is just a little note to all those pro-Trump people who will defend him no matter how ridiculous he sounds.

In the last two weeks, a number of staffers have either resigned from or have been fired from the governor's office. Their replacements have nearly zero governing experience.  The new chief of staff is still registered as a Springfield lobbyist. Wasn't anything learned by watching what Trump did when he came into office?

Hi. I'm calling in response to the caller who stated that the Ale Fest is a bad way to raise money for children. Let me correct you. The money raised from the Ale Fest supports the turf field project at our local high school. It also benefits the Lombard Historical Society. It's a unique way of raising money to pay for something that the entire community can enjoy. I wish the library board and the Lombard Town Centre would take heed. Stop doing some of the things you do at the taxpayers' expense.

Seriously watching the news and I see they're trying to extend the GI Bill for people who served in any type of service; Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, which I truly appreciate, to get a free education. My father was in the Korean War. He was shot, he got frostbite, he was never, ever offered this perk but now, because somebody served in the armed forces, we, the taxpayers, have to pay for their college education. That's wrong. And, people want to know where our tax dollars are going. Completely wrong. Thank you.

Hi, this is Lombard calling. Thank you to the person who called in regarding the lamp/shade store in Glen Ellyn closing. Yes, they gave great service and had a great collection, and carried wonderful, good items. I purchased several things from them. The problem is, no one seems to be buying those types of items anymore. They're going to the big-box stores and buying what is there, which is cheap. Also, they're not interested in quality, decorative pieces. They're only interested in all the technical things that there are, not the nice things that will last from generation to generation. Thank you.

I just want to send a nice thank-you to the Madigans and Cullertons. It took them almost three years to give us higher taxes again. Remember back in the 1950s when they used to tar and feather people? Maybe they should tar and feather the Madigans and the Cullertons and anybody who voted for them. Thanks again for raising our taxes. Illinois has got to be the most corrupt state in the United States. Google it.

There is a lot of discontent in SPEAK OUT directed toward Springfield and Speaker Madigan. I share the outrage. The suggestion about not voting for a candidate who voted for Madigan is a great one. I'm going to go one step further: I will inform Deb Conroy I will not vote for her because of her vote for Madigan. Thank you, SPEAK OUT.

I just finished reading the Thursday, July 13, edition of the Lombardian and what a great story about Earth Friendly Products on Page 9. The future of manufacturing, if it goes that way, with a living minimum wage, health benefits, environmental consciousness, is great. Talk about supporting your community and giving back. Keep buying Earth Friendly Products.

Reading in the Lombardian about all these people who are supposed to be upset about Cruise Nights and the noise it makes, much like living next to a creek, a river, a lake that floods, you chose to live near where something could happen. Please stop complaining about the noise from Cruise Nights. You chose to live there. You should have done your due diligence to find out what happens in that area. I'm so irritated that these people or person is complaining about something that is so good for downtown Lombard. Once again, you chose to live there, so stop complaining.

A shout out of appreciation and thanks to Kelly Simmons for awesome "Bus 9 to Paradise" on the summer reading list. She just hit the nail on the head for a lot of us to slow down, look at life and really enjoy what we have. So, awesome job, Kelly. Thanks so much.

Hi. I'm disappointed that the Lombardian carries so many articles by the Illinois News Network, which is very obviously Republican-oriented. If you do carry those stories from them so often, at least give reference that this is a Republican news outlet. Thank you.

Hi. I'm calling with respect to Lombard. I just wanted to thank Sarah Richardt, the executive director of the Lombard Historical Society, for all of her efforts she puts forth in order to better the Lombard community, whether on behalf of the Lombard Historical Society or otherwise. She is much appreciated. Thank you.

This is Lombard calling regarding the absolutely disastrous postal service we have here in Lombard. I had to contact both Nicor Gas and my cable provider to have them send me email notifications for my bills because they no longer cone in the mail. I get my neighbors' mail, they get my mail, so when I called to speak to a supervisor to see what the heck is going on, I was told, of course, he wasn't in the office, and that was four days ago and I never received a call back from the supervisor.  Someone needs to take control of that post office. It's an absolute disaster. This is absolutely ridiculous that we have this kind of mail service in Lombard. Thank you.

Hi. Illinois, how does it feel to become Detroit?

Lombard calling. I was just wondering if there’s ever been debate or talk of DuPage County and why there is such a building boom of strip malls and parking lots for them—and whether this is practical or even needed. All these eateries and gas stations in a county where the population does not even grow. It all seems to be some type of scam for the construction companies.

Lombard calling. I participated in the blood drive at Village Hall a few weeks ago. I'd like to give a shout out to all the senior citizens I saw who made the effort to come out and donate blood. Thanks for setting the example that you're never to old to help others. Thank you.

Lombard calling: I just got through reading the Lombard police reports and all the burglaries to cars that happened on July 3. It’s one thing if had your car locked, but it was broken into and you had things stolen. I feel sorry for those people. But those of you who left your cars unlocked, and wonder why things got stolen? Well, I hate to break the news to you, but you don’t live in Mayberry or “Happy Days” era Milwaukee; you live in a real town. I hope that the lowlifes who robbed your cars do get caught and charged with burglary, but really, if you leave your car doors unlocked, don’t you think the police should write you a ticket for reckless stupidity?

This is Lombard calling. Did anyone at the village consider completing the Roosevelt job before starting the work on Maple? I feel like the Roosevelt work is never going to be completed and now we have two major roads blocked up. Can someone explain this to me? Thank you.

Your inquiry was forwarded to Village of Lombard officials, who responded: “The Roosevelt Road Water Main Lining Project began in February of 2017, is currently in its final stages, and is scheduled for completion on schedule. This project and the Gatz Pond Project (impacting Maple Street) are 1.5 miles apart from each other, with several other east/west routes between the two projects including Wilson Road and Madison Street. In this case, these two projects do not include any overlap of construction areas. We understand the temporary inconvenience that construction may bring, however the Roosevelt Road Water Main Lining Project will provide clean drinking water for residents and businesses for up to the next 50 years, and the Gatz Pond Project that will help alleviate residential house flooding and sanitary sewer overflows. We appreciate your patience as we continue to improve the village’s infrastructure for decades to come. For more information please visit www.villageoflombard.org/construction.”—JAC
