Dear Villa Park and Lombard neighbors: We have all seen the devastation from recent floods, fires and earthquakes. Are you prepared for even the slightest of emergencies? Our state has a website to help, but at the very least everyone of us should have the following in our homes: a case (24 bottles) of water per person, canned and dry goods for three days per person, a manual can opener, batteries, working flashlights, candles and matches (keep matches in a sealed sandwich bag). This is really a minimum for every home in our villages. We are not immune to earthquakes or tornadoes, or, God forbid, a nuclear attack. Please consider storing items to help you get through the first few days of an emergency.  The minimal cost could save lives,

Why is Grace Street and the Prairie Path all torn up again? It seems like it wasn't all that long ago, a couple of years ago, that they were doing what they're doing now. What's going on?

According to Village of Lombard officials, "Construction on Grace Street is part of the North Broadway Pump Station Project, which includes major storm water infrastructure improvements. As such, excavation is necessary to expose the underground sewer system. The advancements being made will improve Lombard’s storm water management potential and will help to decrease possible residential flooding. This type of progress is necessary for the long-term health of Lombard. While the construction area includes a portion of the Illinois Prairie Path, the path remains open. The Illinois Prairie Path is managed by DuPage County and therefore the village cannot speak to any other areas of the path that might be in question. Please visit villageoflombard.org/northbroadway for more information about the project and feel free to call Public Works at 630-620-5740 with any other questions you may have."—JAC

Once again, I see school buses, with kids in them, not stopping at stop signs. Can we report these somewhere? It's not only dangerous, but what a terrible example for the children. I would like our police department to make some money for the city by ticketing drivers who routinely don't stop at signs, and drivers who don't seem to know it is illegal to use your phone while driving, especially in school zones.

The caller who said her or she has a PhD and predicted that the president will be reelected is a great illustration of education not equaling intelligence. One needn't have pursued higher education to see the way he lies and contradicts himself. It is clear that he is an erratic, ignorant old man with the vocabulary and temperament of an especially dull and obnoxious child. He is a braggart and a bully, and deeply un-Christian. How on earth could people be proud of him representing us? This administration is the most anti-science we have ever had, and they're proud of it. This will be ruinous to our country's economy and our standing in the world. China couldn't be happier that we elected a clown who golfs weekly and tweets about TV ratings instead of reading policies and meeting with experts. Politics shouldn't be about teams and having idols; it should be about results. The only results I see are an increase in uncertainty/fear and the top 1 percent getting richer.

Why are the student buses apparently breaking the law by using the weight restricted St. Charles Road bridge over the Salt Creek even though they have the alternate route over North Avenue?

Lombard calling. I do not want any billboards they may put up. Please, no billboards. We have enough pollution. Thank you.

Hi. This is Lombard calling. I was wondering if you have any information why Casey's Restaurant on North Avenue and Grace is closed. My wife and I went there the other night to eat dinner and they were closed. I'd appreciate any information you have. Bye.

Hello, this has to do with the new Mariano's in Lombard. I don't believe there should be people pulling out of the Mariano's parking lot in the southwest part of the lot where the Mariano's sign is and people are pulling out going left, which is south on Finley Road. That is an accident waiting to happen. Why can't the people exit someplace else? Why can't they turn right to go north? There are other parts of the parking lot where they can go out of the parking lot and make a right turn to go east. Because when they go out there on the southwest side of the parking lot, I can tell you it's an accident waiting to happen.

This is Lombard calling. I don't believe Lombard has jurisdiction on Roosevelt Road, but we should complain to IDOT about blacktop patching by the contractors working on water lines between Meyers Road and Fairfield westbound. All the blacktop patches are low in the middle. We will be running over them forever. Previous patches east of there were quite good. Thank you. The number is 708-372-6393.

One of your callers accused people who criticize the president and are unhappy with him of listening to CNN. I listen to all news stations, including MSNBC, also read Washington and New York papers and the Chicago Tribune. These Trump supporters probably only listen to FOX News, the most bias station on the planet. They don't care that the Trump campaign manager Manafort could be in big debt to Russia and we don't know yet if Trump or any of the others in his family are in debt also. Hopefully the truth will come out soon before we all have to learn how to speak Russian. Thank you, bye.

To the caller who called in regarding my call about Charlottesville, Virginia, yes, I absolutely do remember what happened to Rodney King. It was horrible. The man had done nothing but was in a high-speed chase with the police. They caught up with him, dragged him out of the car, beat him with billy clubs. This was the police doing this to an innocent man. What happened to Reginald Denny was horrific. It should have never happened. He got stuck in the middle of protesting that was going on at that time. I do not condone that kind of violence.

To the person who is dead-set on defending and rationalizing the murder of an innocent woman by a white supremacist in Charlottesville: why? You assert that "both sides" went there looking for trouble. Are you aware that "alt-right" groups joked in the weeks before about using vehicles as weapons, a play straight out of the Islamic State handbook? Did you hear about the South Dakota lawmaker who lost her job for posting an "all lives splatter" picture? Did you know that a few weeks ago a truck adorned with Confederate flags attempted to hit people in Washington State? Vehicular assault is an instrument of domestic terrorism, plain and simple, and minimizing it only serves to give extremism room to breathe. If you're going to "both sides" this issue, I'll be happy to renounce antifa as a small number of anarchist hooligans if you will please admit that neo-Nazis, racists and other dangerous losers congregate online to conspire against this country and its citizens. These people might be fringe, but they exist.

A recent caller stated that President Obama "gave" Iran $150 billion dollars. That was Iran's money that was frozen in U.S. banks under sanctions, which were partially lifted, so the funds were returned. Obama's accomplishments were many, including health care reform, Wall Street reform, ending the war in Iraq, eliminating Osama bin Laden, recapitalizing banks and expanding environmental protections. The U.S. auto industry was saved, including all of its suppliers and their jobs, and a profit was later returned to the Treasury. This was all in the first term. By January of 2017, the unemployment rate was cut in half and the S&P 500 index tripled. If Donald Trump accomplishes half as much, he will be the greatest Republican president since Theodore Roosevelt.
