Sen. Obama, if we make $250,000, we’re rich. We pay $90,000 in taxes, so we never see that $250,000.

To any undecided voters regarding the Nov. 4 election, please read the following facts carefully. It would seem that Obama and company’s records fall far short of being an open book. Federal law does not require campaigns to identify donors who give less than $200 during the election cycle. The great majority of Obama donors never break the $200 threshold. The federal election committee breakdown of Obama’s campaign funds lists that amazingly, $222.7 million is coming from contributions of $200 or less. Of that, only $39.6 million comes from donors who his campaign has identified. It is the largest pool of unidentified money ever.

Hi, Lombard calling. I’d like to know what’s going on with the bowling alley property on Roosevelt Road, or the Lincoln-Mercury dealer on Roosevelt. How about the small fire station near Fairfield and Roosevelt? What’s going on with that? Or, how about the property downtown by Elizabeth and St. Charles? Nothing’s happening with these buildings and the property just sits. You’d think the village would like to get them on the tax rolls.

Director of Community Development Bill Heniff responded: “The property previously occupied by the Lombard Lanes Bowling Alley and O'Hare Towing was approved for a multiple-tenant commercial development in June 2008 and named Lombard Crossings. The center will include a sit-down restaurant, retail center, a bank and a lot for a use to be determined.  Since June, the property has been annexed in its entirety and the owner has been completing the final engineering plans for the center. They plan to start construction in 2008.” Heniff said the former Lincoln-Mercury property is being used as a Halloween store—the owner is marketing the property for development; and for now, the village has not committed to building a third fire station. Heniff stated of the property at Elizabeth and St. Charles: “The property is approved for the Pointe at Lombard mixed-use urban senior development. While the property owner sought to start construction earlier this year, they slowed their construction start date due to market conditions. They have expressed their commitment to the project and are hoping to start construction in 2009.”—JAC

Listen up, newspaper, and I hope you people read these words very carefully: This is about the debate on Oct. 7. Barack Obama said that his grandmother raised him and she had to get food stamps to take care of him and then he got his education in the best state in the country. He didn’t say the best country; he said the best state in the country. Those are the exact words out of his mouth. But, you know something? His grandmother was vice president of a bank in Hawaii.

Lombard calling. Seniors, if you are interested in getting a pet, go to DuPage County Animal Control on County Farm Road. You can adopt an animal for only $1.

Hi, this is Lombard calling. I want to say thank you to Master Sky. Personally, I will never forget what you have done for my family. My two boys have definitely benefited from all of your positive teaching. You have taught them awesome karate skills and most of all, skills that they will carry for life. I strongly recommend everyone check out Sky Centers in downtown Lombard. You will not regret it. Master Sky, you are a great example for our community. Thank you.

Hi, this is Lombard calling. A friend of mine and I went to the 621 Diner on Roosevelt Road, and we were so pleasantly surprised. The owner was there, or one of the owners, Phil, and he was so gracious. Our breakfast was killer—they have the best hash browns of anyplace. It’s just a nice family homespun restaurant that everybody in Lombard would enjoy. So, we’re calling to encourage all Lombard residents to try 621 Diner. It was fabulous and the food was as good or better as anyplace else you can eat. We think it was better. It’s just a really great little place.

This message is for JAC, I think that’s Jane. There’s a bakery going in on Main Street. There’s a sign on the door. Everybody knows that.

* * *

Regarding the bakery on Main Street, for some time now there’s been a sign that says a bakery is opening in there. Why wouldn’t Bill Heniff know that and why wouldn’t the person responding in SPEAK OUT know that?

I can only speak for myself—I have not been to that location in quite some time, and therefore was unaware of the sign. —JAC

Hi, this is Lombard calling. I just wanted to say that I am one of the teens who skate in Lombard and also part of the teens who pretty much call every week in to SPEAK OUT. I just wanted to say to the person who said we need to get jobs or go to another skate park, you don’t know what it’s like to be a teenager without skateboards in Lombard. There are not many jobs that a 14-year-old can do. And, the Elmhurst skate park is far away. Our parents don’t always have the time to drive us there. So, unless you know what you’re talking about, I’d recommend you not say anything about this whole thing.

Lombard Body and Fender Shop gave me a really competitive price, great customer service and on-time repair for my dented car fender. In these days of poor economy, it was great to find such a good business in Lombard. This hidden gem is at 27 E. Willow. The people were really helpful, it was a clean, well-kept shop and I certainly can recommend it because my car looks like new.

Hey, Barack Obama, news flash for you. Corporations do not pay taxes. They push the tax increase off on the people who buy their product.

Hi, this is Lombard calling. I was calling to say that we finally got rid of the wooden sign after the construction on Westmore, but whose idea was it to put bushes there, because you can turn right on red, but you can’t see left around the bushes, especially the young teenagers who are driving there. Maybe we need to take those bushes down and figure out something else to plant there so you can see left when you are turning right at that stoplight.

The new street lights on Main Street look nice, but whenever I pass during the day, the lights are on. Come on, Lombard, please conserve energy and help keep our electric bills down. We taxpayers pay that bill.

Hi, this is Lombard calling. I am calling in regard to the comment in SPEAK OUT about the toilet paper. You know what, you must be an older person because it’s in good, clean fun. I have a daughter on the Falcons and I have another child at Willowbrook, and they do it for homecoming weekend. We always clean up our toilet paper. I even go to the neighbors’ houses and pick up the toilet paper if it blows through. So, it’s just good, clean, innocent fun; come on, stop being so crabby.

Hello, this is Lombard calling. About 6:30 on Oct. 16, I was at Yorktown mall with my children at the indoor playground. I don’t know who you people are, but your son threw toys, and hit me, an adult. Not only did you not apologize, you didn’t have your child apologize.

Hey, this is Lombard calling. Quick quiz: Have you ever worked for anybody who makes less money than you do? Have you ever belonged to a church that swore its allegiance to Africa and hates America? Have you ever paid a plumber for a job when he asked for $60, and only gave him $50, and told him you are going to take the other $10 and spread the wealth? If you answered no to all these questions, then why the heck would you vote for Barack Obama?

Hi, this is Lombard calling. I agree with the person who called about the long line of cars around rush hour at Finley and Wilson. And, it’s not because now the lanes are repaired over on Main Street. There’s still three blocks of cars heading north that are lined up to stop at the stop sign. There should be some sort of stoplight. Thank goodness we finally got a stoplight at Glenbard East.

Hi, this is Lombard calling. I’m wondering if anyone has looked into what the insurance liability would be on a skate park and what the increase would be to taxpayers. I’m also curious to know whether or not the Lombard taxpayers would support a tax increase for a skate park.

Hi, Lombard calling. I’ll probably put up my McCain sign. Those Democrats really love to attack Sarah Palin. I think she’s got more backbone than Mr. Obama does. Now they’re attacking Joe the plumber in that debate, saying he’s going to be hurt by the tax increases that are coming when Mr. Obama, Mr. Big Government, gets into office. Their idea is to punish anyone successful; a person who is a plumber or tradesman and owns his own company, making more than $250,000 will be punished, and you know what, that’s most of the firms in this country and most of the people work for firms of that size. You’re not just punishing the big, bad rich guy—you’re punishing the worker. What hypocrites. They ride on emotion, the Democrats do. That’s how they get people to vote for them, not logic—emotion—just like with the unions and everybody else, captive audience.

Hi, this is Lombard calling, and I’m very disappointed that someone decided to steal my Obama for President sign. Conveniently, the McCain sign next door to me is still intact. But for some reason, someone must feel threatened, because they felt the need to take my Obama sign. Not cool. Go, Obama.

This is to the person who responded last week saying that the traffic on Finley and Wilson would be better as soon as Main Street construction was done. Well, the Main Street construction is done, the lanes have been opened, everything’s back to normal, and there’s still constant traffic no matter what day or what time it is. There’s always traffic on Finley and Wilson. I’m wondering if I’m the only one who is noticing that, or if anyone else is as well, and is there anything that could possibly be done to alleviate all that traffic?

Hi, this is Lombard calling. It’s 1:20 on Monday, Oct. 20. There’s a police officer at the corner of Wilson and Main Street. It’s raining buckets; he has his wipers on but no headlights. This is a complete violation of traffic laws in the state of Illinois. Your headlights have to be on any time you use your wipers. When the police don’t know the law, how can they be expected to enforce it? Lombard police, dropping the ball once again. Something must be done.

Villa Park here. Let’s see—half of the skateboard park is $178,000 plus $100,000 for equipment? That comes out to $278,000. That’s more than they’re spending on fixing our streets. Let’s get our streets fixed.

Lombard calling. I’d just like to say that, as a senior citizen, it’s very hard to drive at night in the rain here with no lighting. Most towns do have a light on every corner, at least. This one has lights in special places and that’s it.

I am a senior citizen and live in Lombard.. I would like to compliment the staff at the Lombard Pharmacy from all the way to the top to all the way at the bottom. They are courteous, polite, efficient and very, very friendly.

Why are our politicians not investigating gas gouging? There’s a price range from $2.83 a gallon, $2.99 a gallon, to $3.09, $3.19, $3.29. Now, that’s 30, 40, 50 cents a gallon difference.

Hi, this is to the Lombard code enforcement group. I see that they have a new team in place. I’d sure like to know how they’re going to enforce snow removal around commercial businesses all up and down Roosevelt Road, Main Street and North Main Street. Each year when we have our first snowfall, none of those businesses clear the corners around their parking lots. You end up having to climb up over huge piles of snow. Why is it every year that nothing is done? Then, the businesses say, oh, the snow is frozen; we can’t do anything. I’d like to know how the code enforcement group is going to address this.

Village code enforcement coordinator Joan Rogers responded: “Because it is very dangerous for people to walk in the street, especially in bad weather, it is particularly important to clear snow from the public sidewalks. The Village of Lombard Code of Ordinances requires that those in control of commercial properties, both owners and tenants, clear snow from their adjoining public sidewalks (the sidewalks near the curb) within 24 hours after the cessation of  the snowfall. When 24 hours have elapsed after a snowfall, Code Enforcement inspects commercial areas, placing particular emphasis on areas of high pedestrian traffic, including Main Street near Glenbard East, downtown and Roosevelt Road. We contact responsible parties, issue violation notices and, when necessary, tickets requiring a court appearance to those who have failed to clear the public sidewalks. As some business owners can attest, it sometimes happens that the sidewalks are cleared only to be covered again after the streets are plowed. Handling snow is a difficult and frustrating part of life in the Midwest. Hopefully we will all do our best and be patient and considerate of each other with every snowfall.” Rogers said concerned individuals can call Code Enforcement at 630-620-5749 to relay problems with snow on public sidewalks that abut commercial properties. —JAC

Lombard calling. This message is for the person who stole my Mickey Mouse planter. I hope you enjoy it as much as I used to. It’s a shame you can’t have anything in your yard in Lombard anymore.
